Aaaaah Miki Honoka!!!! I missed you! Well, apparently she goes by a different name now – Yahagi Honoka so I am guessing she got married. I missed you too Mugi-chan!!! I haven’t heard from you since you made out with Morikawa Aoi in Schoolgirl Complex! Interestingly, both movies came out around the same time and one of our other girls Yamazaki Hirona, she too had a movie out around that same time, and a big one at that – Kamisama no Yuutoori!
Miki plays the character Mina. Mugi-chan plays Chitose. Hirona is Akine and to round up our main female cast, the sexy as ever Tokiwa Takako, who I last remember from 20th Century Boys trilogy, plays Mina’s big sister Keiko!
But before we begin, does anyone want some FEELs? I am all but overflowing over here! I need to get rid of some before I burst! And this movie right here is partially responsible! It tackles so many deep themes and with the runtime being just 10 minutes shy of 3 hours, well, you can just imagine the state of one’s mind and soul once those credits roll!
And that on top of a bruise I already have because that’s right, once again I am late to the party! So late even Honoka got married before I watched the movie! Yes, this is a 2017 movie and I am just finding out about it now! It is worse here because this looks to be a big deal of a movie! And no, it’s about the length but the scope and that cast! Basically an award-bait movie here and I am only finding out about it now!
The movie like I said, is so packed with conversation that I would need a hundred something page post to go through it like I used to do so I am going to focus on the relevant parts because that’s what we are all here for, let’s be honest! And as you might expect, those parts are very short but in the grand view, I am only surprised we even got any yuri in this! You don’t go into a movie like this and expect something!
Heck, my mouth was on the floor when we got content in the very first 10 minutes! I was like, whaaaa! Seriously, I did not even know Honoka was in this! I went in completely blank because movies about warring Japan set in those early 1900s are simply too artistic to miss out on!
That’s right, this movie is set around that time, specifically around the time that Japan hit Pearl Harbour and the world was on the precipice of WWII!
But on top of war and the psychological effects it had on the people, there were others issues the movie dealt with so to have a movie already stuffed with themes to have yuri, definitely unexpected turn of events!
Fear not though, yuri was not an issue the movie dealt with. This was more like a hidden Easter egg if you will! But the surprise was not done yet!
You see, after that mentioned scene, which had Mina (Honoka) coughing out blood and then for some reason Keiko-neesan (Takako) decided the best medicine was to ‘suck out’ the blood – through a kiss of course, from that moment on I was watching the movie for those two! Yes they are sisters, well, step sisters as Keiko had married Mina’s brother (who is dead) but really, half of fetish porn in Japan is stepcest and yeah..
Never did I ever think I would see this outside of porn! Sure there have been movies about that but those are hetero as you might expect, I have yet to come across one for yuri, well, now I have!
But as you might expect we can’t be so lucky so there has to be a catch and of course there is! There are two and the first and biggest one, one that I choose not to believe personally, is that Keiko was actually the one poisoning Mina and the one that poisoned Mina’s brother, by feeding them fake medication that was actually ground white snake scales! Keiko was so bad she even stole the hearts of all the boys that might have fallen for Mina!
But like I said, I choose to live with the illusion that Keiko was a good person! But as you see, this movie is not for the faint of hearts!
As for the other, of course being poisoned meaning being dead and that’s right, Mina is dead by the end of the movie and she is supposed to be the main girl!
Well, at the end of the movie everyone is dead except the main make character, though Akine (Hirona) might have been alive but no one knew where she was!
Anyway, though the Keiko/Mina thing went on almost towards the end, and that meant some nice scenes of their blood fetish make-out, that was a BAD END on that front and really, it was bound to go nowhere anyway!
But wait, there is a very nice surprise for sticking around for over 2 and half hours – Akine and Chitose!!! Now that, that was true surprise!! It was so surprising that even the hint that was dropped just the night before totally flew over my head because I was just that un-expecting!
You see, both of them are straight as can be, well, at least that’s what we are led to believe like, 90% of the movie! There’s three guys, one of them is Chitose’s boyfriend, the other is Chitose’s Cousin and the other, the main character, he is the one Akine has a major crush on and it almost seemed like they would end up together despite Keiko wanting him to be with Mina but Mina had eyes for Chitose’s boyfriend instead which yeah, makes things complicated!
As time goes by we learn that Chitose was being raped by the Cousin all this time and while they showed us that she was are of the idea that Mina was slowing stealing her boyfriend’s heart, she just seemed sad not angry or any other emotion that a girl would feel when their boyfriends are being stolen!
To put it bluntly, Chitose did not give a fuck and we do get her to say it out loud during the confession when she says that Akine was the only person she truly ever loved!
But what makes things even more complicated is that it wasn’t Chitose who made the first move but Akine! Akine performs the ritual, that we saw her do before, where she wraps a white band around the partner’s head then putting on red lipstick, she kisses the forehead on top of the bandana, turning the kiss mark into a red spot signifying of course the Japanese flag and is meant to give the other person courage!
And having seen what happened after that, we know they are about to kiss and it is Akine who goes in for the kiss! Seriously, I was so shocked by that whole scene I am still not recovered! Never in my life have I been blindsided like I was here! And of course the scene ended with Chitose leaning her head on Akine’s shoulder under the moonlit night!

Yeah, we never get to hear of them again after that but with only a few minutes left and knowing what the future held in store for the citizens, I did not want to know what happened! Unfortunately the main character told us through a time jump epilogue word dump but we knew from history anyway so…
Now I am going to have to go back and watch the movie with close attention just to see if they dropped any hints of Akine and Chitose’s revelation because that was so good! There probably isn’t because I want to believe I have enough experience to spot clues but you never know! I mean, maybe my attention was too focused on Mina and Keiko that I just simply blocked out the so thought straight best friends!
We shall see…
