So, you all probably already know about this, huh? What, with all the publicity this couple got when it first hit the audiences with this drama’s episode 11 (through to 12). Seriously, that day you didn’t even need to Google their names, or the character names, all you needed was the show’s title and and almost all the first 12 pages of Google results were about these two! You would think that this was the first time we got to see a gay couple in Korean drama! Seriously Korean, have you forgotten about PotW? That was way back in 2008 and it even won awards including Best Couple by Moon Chae-won and Moon Geun-young actually! I don’t remember them getting this much attention at the time. So why now? Okay, so those two did not get to kiss but their relationship was more mature and almost did it but that may have had to do with the fact that Painter of the Wind was more mature in general.
Not that Sunam Girls isn’t that mature but even though the themes are a bit complicated, the fact that these are still students takes the seriousness out of it a bit. Oh well, at the very least Soo-yeon and Eun-bin’s story was very solid even if it was just a causality and not the main problem. Then again maybe that was a good thing. Still though, even if they weren’t the main thing in this arc (No doubt they stole the episodes, nay, the whole show really), their story was the best IMO.
Seriously though, unless I have missed a lot in these years that I have not been following K-Dramas, has it really been 7 years since we last got a couple in a Korean drama? Too bad that this was just a part of the show and not a stand-alone series. But I have a feeling that with how a hot topic this shake in the waters of an experiment it produced, who knows, we might get a spin off series dedicated to these lovely girls.
There is nothing to relate to but it is safe to say that Soo-yeon and Eun-bin are my second favourite K-drama couple after Yoon-bok and Jeong-hyang from PotW! That is still my favourite K-Drama, nay, favourite asian drama of all time even to this day! No couple will ever beat those two, not yet at least! Who knows, if Soo-yon and Eun-bin had gotten their own series, maybe they would have put up a good fight and they were great, really great, but that ending…
“♪ Thought of you as my mountain top
♪ Thought of you as my peak
♪ Thought of you as everything…
♪ I’ve had but couldn’t keep
♪ Everything I’ve had but couldn’t keep”
Sometimes an ending that doesn’t give a clear conclusion is worse than a BAD END! Sure others will no doubt see it a a positive one and in fact I too did the first time around when I wasn’t paying attention to their expressions! But after that first time, I did, I paid attention especially to Soo-yeon! She looked absolutely dead inside! There is no way we were meant us to take this the positive way! And that song that accompanied the last scenes didn’t help matters at all. It really sucks! Soo-yeon really deserved to be happy! The girls sacrificed a lot, herself really, to protect Eun-bin, the person she loves! And even after all that, she still had to suffer more because now the world had eyes on her and her life was forever changed. Eun-bin was saved but depending on how much she loves Soo-yeon, she too is going to be in a world of pain.
She has two options the way I see it, she can either decide to suffer with Soo-yeon and throw away all the hard work that Soo-yeon went through to protect her by coming out too and continuing to see Soo-yeon but no longer in secrecy. Or she could still see Soo-yeon in secret but now that Soo-yeon is under the radar, all will be watching and soon enough the two will be caught and since Eun-bin would not be prepared, the damage might be much worse than if she had come out herself. There might be other issues to consider in her case too that make her so afraid of people finding out about her.
So deep and so good their story is and this is all from what could happen after their part in the series not what did happen! The best arc in the series hands down! These two really deserve their own series that should extend past the ending of ep12 and consequently their story in the series! Despite them having no more than 15min of a two hour arc, their story feels much much longer than that. It feels like I watched a movie of them two.
But like I said, you all have probably already been acquainted with these two, YouTube is filled with their videos, all Korean sites have an article about them, facebook and tumblr, Jesus! So this post will be brief…
Cute moment No.1 of the 9000! Eun-bin is in the broadcast club at the school and she is the one that reads that request! As she does, who we see is a very happy Soo-yeon and we can already tell she is the one that requested the song. Ad in the fact that she is also happy to hear Eun-bin’s voice and this moment is just sugar-heavy! During the song, we are given glimpses of who Soo-yeon is thinking of but at this moment in time we have no idea that it is Eun-bin. I just hope that they didn’t think they were hiding the fact that it was a girl and only hid the identity of the girl because it was very easy to see that it was a girl (dat chest on the couch scene!)
As Soo-yeon is being questioned by the detectives, we get a glimpse of what has to be the ways that these two secret love birds pass their time in school, in public, doing these seductive little things without anyone else having a clue! Only this time as Eun-bin seductively descends the steps, to not give away their connection Soo-yeon turns away from Eun-bin, who looks so hurt it hurt me too straight in the feels! To think that they have moments like these all through the hours under the noses of a clueless student body! Seriously, we need a full series of these two!
It’s safe to say that Mizukawa Asami and Uchiyama Rina’s 360 degree kiss just got smashed, am I right! 360? How about 570 degrees! And by the gods, what a kiss that was! Let’s watch it in motion…
In case someone hasn’t seen the episodes and is wondering about Eun-bin’s expression, she had come over there to talk to Soo-yeon about the leaked (fake) video of her apparently stripping to someone and is afraid people will connect it to her. She suggests the two laying low and shows her fear of people finding out about their relationship but Soo-yeon’s love is much deeper than that and she decides to show Eun-bin exactly how much and her resolve and belief in their relationship by kissing Eun-bin right there and then. If this were to be their last time she might as well make it the best ever.
But evil is afoot and the villain of the arc snaps a photo of the two. Good thing they were in Soo-yeon’s line of sight because she sees them and is quick to save Eun-bin from being caught on camera. She takes her out back to escape her fate but Soo-yeon isn’t so lucky!
As Soo-yeon watched Eun-bin walk away, her life getting away from her, we get more flash backs (that shouldn’t be flash backs if this was a real series darn it!) of the time when they were not even a couple yet. But it was clear that Soo-yeon was already in love with Eun-bin. The pained look on Soo-yeon’s face though >.< And that was nothing, nothing is worse than having an empty look on one’s face as we see later when the detectives come over into the shop soon after to question Soo-yeon about Eun-bin, having peeped on to their kiss.
Look at that face!!! Look into those eyes! There is no soul!
And of course as she tells her story with Eun-bin to the detectives, we get more flashbacks, specifically when they actually started. Soo-yeon just couldn’t resist anymore and kissed Eun-bin’s cheek! It was all because of those damned bangs that kept distracting Eun-bin from reading! Then there is another scene where we got the reverse as this time Eun-bin was the one watching Soo-ueon read! The way Eun-bin looked at Soo-yeon there, actually there is a gif of that too, let’s take a look…
What is love?
As we know the villain took a photo of Soo-yeon kissing another girl and spread that photo in the school. Of course there was bound to be fire and Soo-yeon took all teat! She suffered alone in order to protect Eun-bin who couldn’t do much in her helplessness without making things worse. It was all really heart-breaking! These two deserved to have a GOOD END, at the very least Soo-yeon but instead…
I really don’t dig that ending! Soo-yeon’s look still haunts me even as we speak and Eun-bin looks just about ready to break, which is a really great contrast to Soo-yeon’s hardening. This leaves me with the hope that maybe it will be too much for Eun-bin and she will finally be the hero and come to Soo-yeon’s rescue, who looks just about ready to give up on life! Is’nt their situation just sad? A person should not look like Soo-yeon does if her love still lives, didn’t dump her and still loves her! That shouldn’t be the situation to be in but THE WORLD!!
Dear Korea, please get to work! I need their own TV show like, next year, you hear me!!
Sorry girls but you won’t be winning any best character awards! This is like 2015!! To think that there is still people who think like that. Sure they are but these days people have more restraint than that! Even if you think it doesn’t mean you have to express it FCOL! And you were my 2nd favourite detective after Min-ah dear Le-hee! Talk about killing a character without actually killing them!
Great to see too that even in 2015, Korean school girls are still the crazy Korean school girls! I am guessing that centipede game is the equivalent of hide and seek of Japan schools, am I right!!
Anyway there you have it. A very good show that had a pretty mediocre final act if I am telling the truth. I don’t know if it was because it was rushed or it was the pacing that was at fault but the final episodes didn’t make sense to me. Then again it might have been the fact that I didn’t pay moderate attention to them, especially after episodes 11 and 12! Those were simply the best!
Have a good day you all, see ya soon ^^

Hilariously, the girl in one of the caps wearing a big bow and a pink jacket is Hyeri, a girl group member, and she’s famous for being k-pop’s only kissing monster. Google “Hyeri kiss” and you’ll get what I mean.
