Feria ~ The Darkest Light

I think the world is coming together this year! Does anyone else feel like the World is coming together this year? Seriously, Netflix needs to be shown appreciation! Like sure, they have a bad side (All those cancellations) but who doesn’t!! Thanks to Netflix, I feel like my bitterness has been cured!

Like, I don’t even care anymore that most content is half-assed, this effort needs to be recognized! Like, think back to a time before Netflix, how much gay content did we used to get, huh? And don’t even try to tell me that the quality has changed! We still have and apples today just as we did back then but because of the sheer amount of it today, there is less bitterness and so much apples that there is definitely more good apples per basket than there were back then because compared to the half a basket we had back then, now we have tens of baskets!

And for this, I am grateful to Netflix and other streamers who are at least trying!

Yeah, sure I understand it all too well that some projects are now including representation just so they can tick a box off the checklist, but at least there is a checklist! And just like I can still enjoy the bad apples because I also love other things in my media other than gayness (HORROR, MYSTERY, SCI-FI, ACTION), I also know some just are in it for the relationships so I understand that side too!

I’m just saying at least now we have more choices to be picky about! We are a time where we can be picky!

Just think of that!

And I realize that I have written a book before I have even said a word about the subject at hand, which is a horror/thriller/mystery of a show from Netflix, courtesy of our scorching neighborhood Spain!

Irrelevant, but until I started writing my thoughts on this, I have spent the entire watch thinking this was from Italy! Like, I kid you not! I really need to watch more European shows so I can start understanding the languages better to understand the source damn it!

The story is about two sisters who learn one night that their parents are not what they thought they were when one morning, they wake up to find their parents gone, only for the SWAT to storm their house scaring the demons out of them!

Turns out their parents where responsible for the death of 27 or so people who died that same night at the local mine, people mostly not from around the town but also included some town fork. Of course the girls are strung into this mess as they are suspected and then the little sister Sofia, gets in real deep when the Cult, that her mother was apparently a part of, comes for her and they begin preparing her to be their ‘KEY’!

The key to what? The Gates of Hell of course!

Like, even without the gay, I was already aboard, as you know, I feed off this crap! Won’t a Cult come and make ME THEIR key TOO? Sure, I am not a ‘Perfect One’, but I volunteer!

Anyone? No? Well, your loss!

Back to the series, and getting the bad stuff out first, if you thought we would get to see what happens when the Gates have been opened, you surely haven’t watched a streaming show in the past 100 years! Good luck getting fuckin climaxes in the first season of any damn show these days!

Yes, they literally ended the season right when Sofia (stupid, stupid Sofia) opened the gate, because she just wanted to be with her mother! Like, Girl, you are frikkin 16 and you have your sister and father right there!!! Like, WTF?!!

Any who, Sofia is not the one of interest to us over here on this blog (even if she does get involved in a gangbang that involves two women and a man as one of the rituals to prepare her), rather, it’s the big Sis Eva who tickles our curls! And does she tickle our curls!

I know some don’t like threesomes but sadly, unless one’s family was angelic from the day they were born and so was their community then we could all be gay from when we start walking but that is not the case! So as nurture would have it, Eva is already in a relationship with a Guy when we meet her but don’t blink!

Her best friend is totally in love with her and, what’s this?! She didn’t flip out when said drunk Best Friend kissed her! Could she be harboring some hidden feelings for said friend too?!

Mar – That’s the name of said friend, the one with the deadly curls! I feel like we have had a good deal of Curling girls around here, haven’t we? Adele from LAS CUMBRES, Ade from LUNA NERA, just yesterday Emma from CHOSEN, to mention but a few!

I guess I have a Curl fetish now! Sue me!

Okay, I promise, no more getting side-tracked!

Before you jump ship thinking that Eva and Mar are suffering from this strange new disease we seem to be having with out ships, breath a sigh of relief, because our girls are immune! And even better, Guy didn’t even earn the name Dick! Like, at least that aspect is still continuing – No fooling around with out girls’ emotions and no turning Guys into demons!

A toast to progress!

Now, if only someone would fuckin cure this cutting a series into two with a bloody pink unicorn of a second season already planned, the world would be fantastic! Actually, now I am hoping Netflix keeps cancelling shit so these writers can learn a damn lesson!

And I just went an did it again, didn’t I? I am so very sorry dear Readers!

No, our girls not only don’t get any unnecessary drama, except the part where Eva had a boyfriend and Mar was suffering but that doesn’t count, nay, our girls have a good end and end up together and no bullshit either, heck, the coming out scene is going in the books as the craziest coming out I have ever witnessed!

Well, more like they were outed by Sofia (stupid Sofia) but she was currently too dee pinto the Cult drug and Eva, sweet, sweet Eva, the way she reacted after such a horrible act, un-intended as it was, perfect!

First off, Mar’s parents are devout! Add on top the cherry that is a closed community whose Priest might as well have been somewhat of a Cult Leader himself, the way he took everything so literally, then there is Eva, who is scared to be ‘different’, and you have a recipe of hell for what Sofia went and did!

So, get this, the town people in in the church praying for Sofia’s boy friend, whom she put in a coma BTW, at a time like that Sofia decides that it was the moment to go and interrupt the service, spew some poison and on top of that, playback the video she recorded of her sister Eva confessing her feelings for Mar, in the damn church, to everyone!

Like, I don’t even have to say any more, right? Like, how damn terrifying is that!?! Getting outed, by your own sister, in a Church!!!

Seriously, hats off to the way Eva handled that matter! Even if I knew my sister was under some sort of hypnosis, I would be so blind we wouldn’t have had a good ending to our conversation! But sweet Eva just told her sister she loved her and that she would not give up on her, even as Sofia was saying the exact opposite!

But fear not, this did not make things worse for Eva and Mar! In fact, it might have even helped! The community sure got humbled and Mar’s father also laid off and Eva and Mar just got closer, hell, together after that!

Keeping to the good stuff, they did not have a lot of scenes together as this was mostly a story about the Cult and Sofia and Mar was like the supporting of supporting characters, but she managed to get her screentime in as she was there, tried to be there for Eva, even as Eva was still being a nark about it earlier as she kept on choosing Guy over Mar!

This is probably why I don’t feel that attached to them! They just did not have enough time for me to go crazy about them! Like seriously, Mar is a lovable character and so is Eva but…I just did not have enough time with them to feel it!

But again, they are here, and they end up together and the whole damn town knows it too so really, I am keeping them! Who knows, maybe we will get that pink unicorn of a second season and then I will get to really know them!

Now, don’t go spreading rumors, not that it is any secret if you are a regular, but I was kind of excepting something…else…to happen, even if it was under…influence! The Exorcists Series failed to do it and this one has too. Ah shit, I just gave it away, didn’t I?! Hey, this a show about Hell and Demons! Don’t get mad at me, get mad at the show for preaching Evil but not going all the way!

Ahem!
