53rd Baeksang Arts Awards WINNERS!!

First of all, I have not been active because DIVA (My PC) is fucked! I am in the middle of purchasing parts to upgrade so I won’t be up and running until two weeks out! So these days, when I am desperate, I hit the cafes (didn’t even think they still existed!) but mostly I am on twitter and tumblr on my also old phone (also to be upgraded this weekend).

So yeah, do not worry, if you were ^_^. I am alive and kicking and trying not to die from not having a PC!!

Anyway, this being about Ahgassi, I just had to write about it! The 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards (AKA Korean Golden Globes) just happened and there was not one, or two, but THREE yuri movies that won during the ceremony!

These movies are listed above and as if making up for the shenanigans of the actual Golden Globes, in that they did not even bother to nominate The Handmaiden, my all time favourite movie ever took the night by winning the GRAND PRIZE! That’s right, every other movie ate Ahgassi’s dust!

Looks like Wonder Woman will be a tad bit late to the party because Justice has already been served!

I am so happy that I am not even going to try to think of how Kim Tae-ri did not win Best New Actress this time around after winning everything since The Handmaiden came out, nor the fact that Kim Min-hee did not take the Leading Actress prize! Then again, there would have been complaints I am sure since she is no stranger to winning Best Actress in these Korean Golden Globes! She has in fact won twice already, the first time being for yet another yuri movie – Hellcats AKA I Like It Hot!

Interestingly, and thus making me care even less is that fact that the person that stole Kim Tae-ri’s awards is actually in our next film – Our Love Story! Lee Sang-hee II won the prize for Best New Actress for her role as Yoon-joo in Our Love Story! So really, no reason to complain! Also The Handmaiden basically won the overall prize which you can take as it winning every category!

As for the third and final film, the movie that made me cry and sign in awe at the awesome story progression and surprising performances from such young leads, The World Of Us won Best Screenplay totally validating my fan-gasming over its brilliance or story telling!

See this the rest of the world? Get to it already! Japan, France, Thailand, everyone else, give us our yuri movies, good yuri movies, that have good endings! No more beating around the bush and getting cold feet…

See you in a few…

The Age of Yuri!

Sweet, sweet tears! I so happy right now dear Readers, so very happy! Why is that, you might ask? Well, it is thanks to the event that just took place in Korea – The 37th Blue Dragon Awards, one of the two most recognised awards in Korea, and my lovely movies and actresses above came away with prizes!

What a world we live in!

First up is of course Ahgassi/The Handmaiden, and I do not think that I need to mention yet again what this movie means to me. Fine, I will do it. It’s no big deal really. After all, Ahgassi is only my favourite movie of all time!!!

Ahem!

The Handmaiden was nominated for quite a few awards this time around; Best Picture (Obviously), Best Director (no duh), Best Leading Actress (um hello!), Best Female New-comer (seriously), Best Cinematography (really?), Best Music (Jesus Christ people) and Best Technical Design!

Mein Gott!! Aren’t those all the awards? Okay, no but there are two that it should have been in as well; Best Screen play and Best Editing but I get where they were coming from. That would have been just too much and if it had won those it would have won Best Film which really let’s be serious here – A lesbian movie winning Best Film? In Korea? Not on the Government’s watch it cannot! And also goes for Best Director because being best Director means it comes with either Best Picture or Screenplay and Editing so really, it all comes down to simple mathematics!

But really, who gives a tick!?! I don’t care!! As far as I am concerned it won most of the important awards. Park Chan-wook should have gotten Best Director but alas. I watched the Wailing and train to Busan and I was like, seriously?! You know, I have come to a conclusion that putting some sucker punch in the FEELs department is what constitutes to a good movie these days. Some guy sacrifices themselves to save a little girl and tears everywhere, awards everywhere! Like, seriously!

Anyway, as I was saying, all the important awards we got and the most important of them all being Best Leading Actress which went to our lovely and most definitely missed, Kim Min-hee! Despite everything, despite the despair I felt when I saw that she was the only nominee not in attendance, we all got floored when she was actually announced as the winner! Oh, here comes the FEELs again, raining down like tragedy, raining down like a new emotion…

Okay, slow down me! Sorry about that dear Readers. Back on track, once again Kim Min-hee snatches the Best Actress award (the first being from the Directors’ Choice Awards) for her role as ‘Ahgassi’. I am so not crying! I will so not cry too when T-ara manages something similar in the future! And just like the first half, the other half – The Handmaiden, our lovely fresh-meat Kim Tae-ri also once again snatched the Best New Actress Award!

Friends, hold me!

Oh how I wish that Kim Min-hee was there! How I wish to have seen the two interact like all those times before, just the two of them, in their own world, my Korean Mayuki! I believe that the sheer power of their love would have snatched up that Best Film award had they been there together! But alas, Min-hee was not there, leaving our poor Baby all by herself…or was she?

Still not sure who this mystery Lady is!!!

So, if anyone is feeling a need to fantasize about what the two could have been to had Min-hee been around, jump over for some nostalgia pics of the two being love.

But what of the lovely Bae (Doona). What does she have to do with anything? Well, our Mistress got herself one really important prize and that was the Actress Popularity Award. Why am I mentioning her here? Well, she is only a Lead in ‘As One’ and ‘A Girl at My Door’, two movies in my Top 10 yuri movies list. It’s no big deal at all!!

And of ‘The World of Us’? Most of you probably did not know, really, neither did I, that the director of that movie was actually just making her debut with that movie! That’s right, that was her debut and she won the Best New Director Award deservingly! See people, both new (her – Yoon Ga-eun) and old (Park Chan-wook) directors are pushing the world in the right direction by bring awareness and reducing prejudice of homosexuality and other humanitarian issues through quality work! Others need to and I am sure are going to follow their example and soon it will be the Age of Yuri and CBMs!

What a time to be alive! What a year! Seriously 2016, you are awesome!

Have a nice one you all and I hope you got yourselves something nice today (All them discounts)…

So, I finally found this movie! No subtitles as of yet (Not any I have found anyway) but that has never stopped me before and I am damn well not going to let it start now. And so I have watched it in all its raw Korean other-worldly glory and despite not understanding a single word, I was left with one word to describe my feelings afterwards…

WOW!

Just…Wow! I have to wait until the English Subs come out for the long post but I just have to write about this right now! This movie surprised me! I mean, I mentioned it way back in my first post about this movie but this is no childish story! Well, it is a story about childhood, obviously, but it is so real…so human, that it resonated completely with me.

The World Of Us 우리들

Yes, just on hold because I refuse to believe that Lily Fever is over and done with! It was just a gold of a series! Dear South Korea, what are you waiting for? You experimented, the experiment was a success so where is muh series!!!

Oh wait…

You had to put it on hold because our gurl was working on a movie at the time? Right, got it!

Seems like that movie is this little awesome thing that is opening today in Korean cinemas! Hence why I decided to write about it now actually! And I have to say that just from the few videos out on the movie, I am actually pretty intrigued! Forget the young love, the story really seems to be too deep for the intended audiences but then again, this is Korea so…

I was at first lured in by that poster but when I saw the trailers and the interview videos, I was really hooked on the story so I am definitely adding this to the ‘Must Have’ list.

And really, other than the yuri, our girl from Lily Fever is here as well. I did not find a video with subs so I have no idea what is what in regards to characters so I don’t know if she is an adult version of our (short-haired) protag or if she is just a completely different character. I hope it’s the former so we can have some High School romance too but since I did not see another character around her age, I am a bit worried. But then again they might just have decided to not show her so…

Anyway, jump over for the trailers and more caps…
