Ladies and Gentlemen, I am in love with a psycho!
Her name is Rangrong (Ong for short) and she is the main antagonist in the just finished airing Thai show THE ROOT! There are already English subtitles on the web which you can find on dramacool or myasiantv sites.
Ong is totally in love with her younger sister Sai (Roithongsai in full), and would do anything for her. She did do everything for her, even kill! Which is why I don’t understand why people call it queer baiting!
Yeah, sure, Ong and Sai did not end up together, but Ong was totally gay for Sai! What, we are now denying people their sexuality just because they did not get the person they wanted? Ong fell in love with someone who did not love them back in the same way! That is life! It happens a lot, be it with straight couple or not! That does not take awa the fact that the story is about a lesbian who is in love with their sister!
I am saying sister a lot and I know it is a tough subject for some so if it helps a little, Ong and Sai are not blood related! Sai was adopted by Ong’s father so you can breathe a little, if it does help! As far as I am concerned, they are sisters! I mean, if Sai is going to be that affected from a kiss, like, like, literally the girl had to go through therapy because she was traumatised by Ong kissing and feeling her up while she was asleep!
No, I did not roll my eyes!
People have different levels of mental tolerance so I can see Sai’s side of things!
One thing to point out as well is that I watched the series raw. It never occurred to me to seek out subtitles for some reason, until I got to the last episode and I really wanted to know what that ending was all about so when I went searching, I was surprised to find that all episodes were already subtitled! Which I guess makes sense, as the show is running on Netflix Thailand as well.
But as you know, I will always pick quality over anything else so I have higher quality in raw videos, then I will watch those over the subtitled ones! Then later I can always go back if I am desperate to understand what was going on.
I have to say though that watching this series RAW was a super challenge because, I don’t know what it is but I just couldn’t connect the characters’ emotions to their expression and voice levels of what they were saying! All these three things did not match, which is what usually helps in understanding something in a language you don’t understand!
I am not going to say they are bad actors, because they are not and in some scenes they were excellent but damn, some scenes was maddening because everything just didn’t match! Like for example, a character might look empathic but what comes out of their mouth next sound scathing and angry!
It was infuriating!
But now I have subtitles so I can go back and will be able to understand everything!
As I write this, I still haven’t watched the subtitled versions so all my understanding is from intuition!
And my intuition says that I love this series and this ship, even if it did not pan out! Ong was a total psycho but damn, how I love her! The one thing that made her stay on the line for me was that she was always, always on Sai’s side! Everything bad she did was for or to get Sai! You could say that her whole existence revolved around Sai and Sai alone!
Which is why the ending is very tragic, when Ong completely forgot about Sai and rejected her like she was some stranger she did not recognise, after her mind totally broke down, which I think happened because she had thought that Sai had been killed!
That fact also told me that it was Sai who kept her holding onto sanity because let’s be honest, Ong was tethering on the brink so of course when she thought that she had lost Sai, she would totally lose herself, which she did in the end!
The woman was ready to kill herself than see Sai be taken away from her through marriage so the thought of Sai dying…yeah!
Essentially, despite having some side stories with other characters, the series was all about Sai trying to break away from Ong and Ong trying everything she can do in her power to keep Sai with her! I have to say, execution aside, I totally give Thailand infinity points for making this about sisters and the fact that they did not kill off Ong at the end or make Sai totally hate Ong!
People keep preaching about how love just happens and things like Fate and Destiny exist so I am glad to see that they did not walk all over Ong’s love for Sai because for her it was Sai and Sai alone that she could love. I am glad that her love was not trampled all over and that despite the fact that she forgot about Sai due to her mind breaking, Sai still loved Ong like she used to and that she was shown to be devasted by the fact that Ong had forgotten about her.
Now that I think about that ending, I really love it! Sai should have been happy that Ong is no longer infatuated and has forgotten about her, but she is not! And we did see it even earlier in the story! Despite the trauma still going strong and Ong doing all those things, when they met and talked you could see that Sai still had some love in there for Ong, thought towards the climax, she was reaching on empty in those feelings but then during the climatic wedding (the stupidest wedding I have ever seen and had no place in here except to be crashed by Ong), those feelings came flowing back out to the surface and she had even managed to reset Ong’s brain circuit!
Seriously, I think Ong had realised how far she had gone and was going to let go of Sai (though not completely as they would still have their sisterly relationship) but of course that fucker who broke Ong in the first place came to finish the job and shot Sai in front of her eyes, which sent Ong over the bring and murdered his ass in a completely badass thumbs up way with bloody scissors!
She deserves a medal for that!
Sadly, what she got in return was a shattered mind, due to her thinking that she had lost Sai forever, and to the same Fucker who fucked her mind over and put her in her broken state she was in and the cause of her obsessions with protecting Sai!
And as such, if there is fan fiction to tackle the ending, I can see the wise ones going the route of now Sai being the one who realises that she actually loved Ong, after losing the affections and attention directed towards her! Kind of like…that syndrome, you know, the one where a victim falls in love with their captor?
Or maybe, in taking care of Ong, who has reverted back to a mind state of a child, Sai then is the one who falls for Ong!
Wouldn’t that make for a killer sequel!!
To summarise, I totally ship these two and I don’t care that Ong is a grade SSS psycho, I freaking love her! I love her more than those Dicks in this series, and I don’t think any of them deserved Sai but hey, everyone knows that I am not normal!

Her nickname is “Rong”. If you listen to when they are calling her name, you can hear the “R” in Rong. Sai calls her Khun Rong most of the time. Not sure if they’re subbing it with “Ong”, but it’s incorrect if so. Most people refer to the actress as Cris คริส.

That was just my own decision. Rong sounds like Wrong and I can’t stand it so I cut to Ong…
