In-hye & Hyo-rin (All The Easter Eggs!!!!)
In-joo & Hwa-young
This series should have ended the way that GLITCH, the last Korean series I wrote about, ended!
By that I mean, with In-joo, our main character (played by Kim Go-Eun) and her dead girl-friend-come-back-life Hwa-young (played by actress Choo Ja-Hyun). Their last conversation should have gone something like In-joo saying that she got a house, and she asks Hwa-young to live with her once she leaves prison in ten years. To wait for 10 years – that would have been such an epic conviction and a moving point of hope to leave the series on!
Yeah, sure, the youngest sister In-hye (played by a familiar face in Park Ji-Hu) all but eloped with her rich ass girlfriend Hyo-rin (played by Jeon Chae-Eun) to Japan, and from there they plan to move on to Russian then to more countries!
Hyo-rin is so rich that she had different accounts in each country which were loaded for her to use after she turned 18 and on top of that, she has trillion-dollar corporation awaiting her return to Korean since all her parents are dead and so was the only person who would have taken over but he was killed by Hyo-rin’s mother!
Yes, I just spoiled the whole thing and you all leave now but really, if the show did not want to end in a straight line with In-joo, then they might as well go full arc, as in rainbow arc! It was a little funny how both the female villains were rooting for the other ship; with the bodyguard believing that Dick was in love with In-joo while Hyo-rin’s mother, the big boss, believed that In-joo was taken with Hwa-young, so much so she would do anything for her.
Now that I think about it, that was the climax – with the big bad holding Hwa-young hostage and luring In-joo back from a plane ready to take off, to come to her rescue so she could kill them both together. Yeah, she was one crazy bitch, but she was also right, as In-joo did indeed come back to rescue Hwa-young.
The ending made me wonder if I preferred for hwa-young to stay dead, because at least we would be subjected to that meh ending! Like, why bring her back at all?! Here was In-joo basically living her life around Hwa-young and finding justice for her death and then that one time she thought she hallucinated Hwa-young she was all but a girl in love and then when Hwa-young came back for real, it was just…meh!
I would have even taken things better if she had ended up with the Dude but she denied leaving Korean with him to settle in some peaceful life somewhere else. Her sisters are both out of Korea with the elder studying in America while the youngest In-hye as I said, went eloping with Hyo-rin to Japan!
But then I guess that is what Fan Fiction is all about, eh? The muse works better when there are gaps missing that needs filling and girl, do these two have a lot of gaps to be filled! Though sadly, I feel like writers these days have lost the fight and only write about already canon ships!
Where was that fire where we wrote the craziest thing about any characters?!
I guess I should be happy that we got In-hye and Hyo-rin eloping off together and basically having their life planned out problem-free!
Also, In-joo and Hwa-young were left pretty wide open for all possibilities in all kinds of stories Fans can think of! Like, In-joo missing Hwa-young so much in those ten years and eventually realizing her feelings, or Hwa-young can be the brave one to bring up the topic when In-joo visits her again or it can all wait until Hwa-young is released and she is met with a surprise of a new home to share with and so much more! I mean damn, they both have permanent phyisical scars to remind them of each other for the rest of their lives!
But beggars can’t be choosers so I guess we can’t do anything but consume what we are given, or not!
As for the story of the show, it’s basically corporate corruption but as we all know somehow Korea finds a way to make thing way super dramatic and as you can imagine it is not just about corruption! The sisters, minus the youngest, were both detrimental in exposing this corporate while the youngest just wanted to live her life in peace without the adults’ bullshit with Hyo-rin!
In-joo took the front lines, as she was in direct contact with the evil family whereas the second sister fought on the media side as she was a reporter in training! The youngest, in-hye of course was involved only because she was involved with the daughter, who thankfully, was nothing like her parents! In-joo was driven by her need to find justice for Hwa-young’s murder, while the middle sister was driven by her sense of justice and finally, In-hye only wanted to be with Hyo-rin and paint art!
They all faced their challenges, even life-threatening and they all survived! Good news! Good end! Not the best but good end! And like I said, it leaves you with some speculation, which is always great as it keeps your brain entertained!
I am not sure if I prefer In-joo and Hwa-young or In-hye and Hyo-rin though I guess since there were no gray areas with the latter then I pick In-hye and Hyo-rin! While it might be a bonus were she and Hwa-young legit, and that is In-joo being divorced before we meet her – which is strange given her age but who am I to judge! So, while that would be hot were she to end up with Hwa-young, it doesn’t here as she does not, and thus it is more of a confirmation for her straightness!
I guess that means I prefer In-hye and Hyo-rin! They freakin eloped, and not only that, they had each other’s backs from beginning to end! Like, while Hwa-young saved In-joo’s live, albeit anonymously, she was the one that got her in danger in the first place. Meanwhile, In-hye saved Hyo-rin’s life psychologically! Hyo-rin is alive by the end of the series because In-hye stayed by her side!
If you were with me all this time and you like the stuff I like, then I of course recommend this series! All I have got to say is that you better be dedicated and have the time to binge!
And with that, I bid you farewell…

Honestly, the ending reminded me a lot of Hitorigurashi (1996). It was open, but the main character definitely bought the house for her gf, right after realizing her feelings that existed the entire season.
And you’re totally right. No one wants to put in the work and use their imagination to write abt could-be couples 😓

Ooh, another series to watch that I didn’t know about!
Cheers for that!
I really hope there’s still OG writers left or maybe new blood to pick up the paces…

Didn’t you already review that drama? It was the one where the she kept saying she loved the other girl, but in the last episode she was in love with that married guy the entire time.
