South Korea, you sneaky little rats!

Oh sorry, I guess I should start by saying…HONEYS, I’M BAAAAACK!

Yes, you will be seeing this trend often, where I take a short leave and then come back! Life, you know! But what’s new?!

Back to the point, South Korea really pulled a fast with this new series I just watched this week titled GLITCH! What am I talking about? You know those fake Alien Invasions shows that turn out to be the work of a Cult or something? Well, this was 99% that kind of story! In fact, it was almost over, and I almost shut down everything and went to bed (it was 4:30 in the wee hours).

But I did not. And good thing I did not because then I would have missed the mic drop! Two mic drops in fact!

The first drop was that, just as everything was over with the end message being that our protagonist was yet again another victim of a Cult, actual aliens showed up! I kid you not, real aliens showed up and it was in a no bullshit way, just right when there was no room for denial and they even whisked away our girls even as there was no longer a reason to save them, given that all the people around were flabbergasted with what was happening.

I am telling you now, that was a shocker for me! The thing is that other shows that I mentioned that end up the Cult way, were more convincing of there being Fantastical elements involved more than this one! This story was way too fake and an ending of there being no aliens would have been a most obvious choice!

But then those sneaky people really pulled a fast one when you least expect it and then the least alien-like story turn into a real alien story! But the alien story was just part of the story and here we are not interested in those stories, unless it is a horror story!

What we are all here for is the love potion of the story but unfortunately, just like the alien story, the love part doesn’t bring any concrete evidence until the very end, and I mean the very last end! Further than the alien evidence. In fact, the only thing later than the love story evidence is the credits!

Now, not to say that there was no evidence to ship earlier in the story, because, okay, this is another trend I have noticed over my recent viewings, but it seems most writers are going back in time and instead of giving us platters, they are back to teasing us with subtext and testing our faith and those who believe, until the very end, get rewarded!

Thankfully, I am a believer, given that I have been in this life way too long, and as such, I know the game very well! I can spot a thread that will bear fruit from a distance, a recent example being the other new show THE IMPERFECTS, which, and I do not mean to brag, I literally called that ship from simply seeing the two hid from something together in a scene that had absolutely nothing to do with chemistry! It was in a trailer of the show! I shocked myself with that one!

Others seem to have gone back to the subtext ways, here it’s up to the viewer to think what they want, like Willow and Buffy days kind of subtext! That is of course the other new show THE MIDNIGHT CLUB, that I am referring to! More on this when their time comes but getting back to GLITCH, it really looked like there was no light at the end other than subtext, and this being Korea, let’s say there was a lot of enthusiasm!

The signs started early on, but let me tell you, it was hard trying to believe. Why? Because our main character was married and to a nice guy at that and I always feel bad when the good guys lose, especially when no good enough reason is given, or the plot is written lazily!

But thankfully it was not shoe-horned in, and the super straight people can still argue for their case and remain adamant that our girl is straight, but of course we know better here, don’t we!

It started small, like our protag and her boyfriend not being open with one another and being very timid around each other and don’t get me started on the making out! Do you even call that ‘sex’?!

Moving on, there then came this scene where our protagonists Moonhole and Petite (their online nicknames and I will keep calling them that since they are simpler names to understand – with Petite being our main girl with short hair and sometimes glasses, and Moonhole being our sharp featured tall hottie.

Anyway, as they talk about their missed time since they separated in middle school, Moonhole says her High School was hell because she was bullied. Guess why she was bullied? Because there were rumors that she got dumped by Petite after being ‘girlfriends’!

Yep, that happened!

And you might think that since they were just in Junior High (or Middle school depending on where you are) it was just a joke but no, she was dead serious. That was the moment I was like, OK, you had my curiosity, now you got my attention!

Then things kept adding up from them on like how Petite stopped being terrorized by alien visions after she met Moonhole again. Or how the faces she put on the aliens was an image of them that she and Moonhole had drawn back then! Or how when she is with Moonhole, petite can be herself, speak her mind, even act like a completely different person, turning into a wild one instead of that too perfect of a human being that she had turned into!

And then we got more into their past when they were younger and it was like, yeah, this might be new territory as we don’t see much focus on that time in life, especially from Korea, but things begin to add up! And that very last scene we are shown of them in middle school…we had already seen that moment, the moment they first met, earlier on but when we are shown it again, everything is just different!

That moment was the confession scene. That’s what I call it – the confession scene!

You see, it comes as a juxtaposition of their first meeting, when Petite goes to Moonhole’s flat and asks her if she wanted to live together with her! If it were any other characters, it could easily be dismissed! But following up on failed proposals, way mid into their career lives, one already comfortably owning their own home, like, here we have these two very close women, subtext so tick you could smell it, deciding to live together…add in the sugar toppings that is Moonhole’s reaction and, like, you have to be the straightest homophobe that has ever straightened to deny the implications!

Moonhole was like, literally, the only person that believed in what Petite believed it. She did back then when they were wee kids and she still did after all this time even as Petite broke off their relationship after she had lost her memory due to the incident, which throughout most of the story was an abduction, but as we know it was a fabrication! And in the end their faith was rewarded when they finally met aliens for real!

Like, look, I know some will be shaking their heads saying they don’t want to go back to the dark ages where things were so complicated and not open platter but, I am loving the different flavors! Yes, sometimes I am against that but there is a reason, like with Nevertheless – If other ships are shown to be super active and only the gay one is super conservative, that is a problem!

But in the case of GLITCH and THE IMPERFECTS, where the other main ship is also conservative, then there is balance and thus we don’t have a problem!

With that being said, I recommend this series and while you will have to be patient, it is worth it to get that satisfaction at the end, though I guess since I am spoiling it the flavor will be lessened but heh, if you are reading this you are ready to be spoiled, I think.
