I knew something was in store for me when I saw a single sec of Grace and Elena in that first teaser and while my enthusiasm was squashed with the second Full Trailer, which basically gave away what was going to go down, I was still shook when these two hooked up!
Seriously, tell me right now that you did not think of Jean and Sidney from GYPSY when you started to watch this!! The age difference, the way Nicole (Grace) just looks so much like Naomi!!! And their characters are even similar! Grace is a couple shrink just like Jean was and she has a young son who is almost the same age as Jean’s daughter was!
Like, seriously!!!!
I even forgot about what was in store watching Grace and Elena (Matilda de Angelis – really, an angel) on screen because the sexual energy between them was so blinding! From the very first time the two meet there is already sparks flying everywhere!
But interestingly, while Jean kept Sidney her own secret from her husband, here Grace tells him everything after she meets with Elena, well, up until the elevator scene ( I love, love elevators, you hear) when Elena kissed Grace, who did not put up a single ounce of resistance by the way!
The fact that she had started to leave details out of her and Elena’s meetings to her husband whom she told everything showed that she was ready to have an affair!
Unfortunately fate and the plot had different ideas and just like a surprise Ice Bucket Challenge (challenge because you know it is coming), the inevitable happened and the morning after is not what we all wanted – Elena is found murdered in her art studio!
Okay, stop right there!!! She was an artist?! They killed her and we never even got to see her do a nude painting of Grace!?!! Fuck that shit! Worst series ever!
I kid, I kid!
But really, from what I hear the source material has already been modified anyway so why not do more things differently?! Not, I am not talking about not killing Elena, that is the core of the story! But rather, how about going about it differently? How about starting with her death and then you can have this much expanded history between her and Grace in flashbacks, like we were teased of near the end after Grace learns of her death?!
And speaking of which, the way you could see Grace’s un-believing eyes at the news! I wouldn’t want to be in her shoes! Imagine falling for someone, then the very next morning after your first kiss you find out that they had been killed!?!
Na, uh…
But going back to what I think could have been changed, the series kind of did a booboo by showing us the short time from Grace and Elena’s meeting to her death! There is literally very little un-seen scenes that can cram in there in flashbacks! But they did give us something, a different conversation between the two in that locker room that we did not see when Elena was still alive! Now, I am not sure if there will be others but I feel like the series set this one up wrong, especially if they are trying to imply Grace might have had something to do with Grace’s death.
That of course wouldn’t make sense unless the death was suicide, which it wasn’t and even if it was suicide, then their last scene together doesn’t make sense as Elena seemed to think Grace a good person. But you gotta admit, the way they parted almost seemed like Elena was ready to throw herself off a building! That really seemed like a goodbye kiss if nothing else!
But really, I know nothing, this is just speculation! We shall just have to wait and see how things go but I confess, I will be screening through the episodes first to see if there are any Grace/Elena flashbacks then I will watch it!
This is HBO so I trust them but I have to admit, things so far don’t make any sense but hey, maybe they will…we shall see!
And also, yeah, I know it is the story but damn, Elena dying off in the first episode and after the raw fresh sexual energy between her and Grace that was quadruple pregnant with possibilities is a super let down!
Oh well, we can’t win them all but goddamn, if Grace and Elena aren’t frikkin superior couple material!
Sigh, I guess we still have to wait for that GYPSY sequel we still deserve!
