No, you did not mis-read that! I said what I said – This series is no Brazilian version of Euphoria, which is the true American version of the UK SKINS! No, this is those series on drugs!
Yeah, I see you sitting there rolling yours eyes at the absurdity of me even insinuating that there is a crazier version of EUPHORIA and SKINS! There is! The only thing those other series have over this is length but that is for some reason turning out to be a staple for series from that part of the world! Brazil and Mexico for some reason came to an understanding that each season should be a 6 episode thing!
I don’t agree but since they have a 100% success rate in giving sequels, then I don’t mind!
So anyway, what is KISSING GAME? Of course the first thing to come to one’s mind is that there will be a lot of kissing and lots of teen drama but while you might be right assuming that, you are also wrong! Sure there is lots of kissing, I mean come on, it is a teen drama so you see, you are right in that regards but you are also wrong in thinking that it is just another teen drama about sex, drugs, romance and all that good stuff!
There is so much going on here in this series that it is just a crime that there is only six episodes! That being said, I will take 6 episodes of relevant content compared to 10 episodes of nothing but jabbering! And the episodes are short too so not only do we get less episodes but we also get less episode length! It’s maddening but I will take it!
Now, I am not going to waste my time on the plot (just watch the damn thing, you have all the time at the moment, right?) but this isn’t new to my lovely Readers so a quick summary is that a bunch of tight friends go to a party and the morning after one of them contracts some serious disease! She soon dies and they find out that it is transmitted through kissing and there was a lot of kissing at that party! So now the friends are just waiting for their time to come and end up like their dead friend but like many an epidemic, no one believes them and the rest as you can guess, is history!
Unfortunately for us though, the friend that dies is the one we were most interested in as she and our main character Fran (she is the main character, fuck Alex for taking first credit!!!) have a thing…yes, a thing but it was not a real thing and by that I mean that the thing was there, on both their sides but they had never come out and made it a real thing, I you know what I mean…
Obviously, they totally made out (seriously the whole first episode was like the two of them just making out at that party) at the party and they totally had sex when they returned to Bel’s home after said party seeing as Fran woke up totally naked right next to an empty slot of Bel’s, who was at the moment losing her mind in the bathroom given that she had already gotten signs of the infection!
Fran and Bel are Best Friends and have been for a while but there was obviously romantic feelings festering in between the cracks! From first look it seems to be on Fran’s side but when you look closer you see that it was on both their sides! And while sometimes it seemed like there was a threesome thing going on between them and Chico, Chico also being Fran’s childhood friend and thus also friends with Bel, we soon learn that there is nothing to worry about as Chico is totally gay and that party threesome was just a drug-induced one-time thing!
Make no mistake though, Fran and Bel already had sparks flying between them even before said party! Fran only regrets not telling Bel her real feelings but I think she knew and if not before, she definitely knew that last time she saw Fran before she died at the hospital!
Speaking of that moment, apparently the infected lose all emotion before they die! They are basically veggies but Bel was crying when she say Fran that one last time. She was definitely feeling things and if what they were saying is true then her feelings for Fran were that much stronger – stronger than death!
Then there is the other thing where the infected get a vision of sorts before the physical signs start appearing and Fran’s was partially about Bel and partially about her dead twin sister! The others all had their fears manifested as vision but in the case of Fran, it was different. Well, her sister’s part was scary, where she took her place in the grave and got buried alive!
Yeah…nope!
But like I was saying, unfortunately for us, out gay couple is already done for even before episode one is done! Bel is already infected and really, dead by default! But that fact did not kill the chemistry between them and they are on my list of top couples! I can’t believe they managed to give them so much chemistry in what was essentially flashes of their lives!
Unfortunately, if there is a season 2, unless someone pulls a rabbit out of their hats, I don’t see anything here! Well, scratch that, there is another girl we need to talk about – Manu! Manu was Bel’s other best friend but she as been overseas studying, or so we were led to believe! We find out later that she faked that life of hers that not even her mother knew! Instead was just next door in a secluded village of people that the town hates so much they essentially cast them out and call them a cult!
This cult is believed to have started the infection going around and we still don’t know how the thing started but what we know is that Manu had it and she had been living there all this time! Her and her friends are the ones starting these parties where Fran, Bel and the others contracted the thing! Hell, it might as well have been Manu that started the thing if she was at the party!
Anyway, that cult also happens to have a cure, well, a temporary solution and it is thanks to it that Fran survived as did the other students. Too bad Bel was the first public case and thus she had no chance!
But anyway, Manu while she does hook up with Fran and Chico’s other friend Alex, they all but break up and she refuses not only to return with him to the town but denies him to stay when he asked. Then he went and un-followed her channel, blocked her on insta, like the little bitch he is (like, take it like a man and at least stay friends damn it!) like, if they get back together, I am cancelling this show and discrediting all it’s hard work!
Anyway, why am I bringing up Manu? Well, funny story, despite the sparks between Bel and Fran before shit hit the fan, I actually thought Fran was into Manu! And at the time she was just some remote internet girl! So when Fran was taken to that Cult village to get healed and she met Manu in the flesh, my skin was screaming!
Obviously it wouldn’t have done for them to start anything! I wouldn’t have liked it had it started because I am not that cheap for fucks sakes! Manu is the only one that knows that Fran liked Bel other than Chico and she had also just shared her feelings in person when she told Manu her vision before her infection took form. Not to forget that Manu had just broken up with Alex so really, anything happening between the two would have been out right insulting!
But thankfully, unlike Spectros, Fran wasn’t turned straight! And her only other viable option is gay, like,1000% gay so really there is no but…buts here! Speaking of, another thing I love about this show is the balance! There is something for everyone! Gays, Straights, Age-gappers, Necrophiliacs, For Science’s and everyone else! I have to say though that I am seeing a trend I don’t like! All other couples get to have sex uncompromised but when it comes to lesbians, for some reason sex is either really tame, or un-wanted! Looks, you know me, I too even prefer hand-holding over sex but I am sure they don’t think that way at all!
And there I go again being distracted!
Back to Manu and Fran, there wasn’t any ‘evidence’ per say but there definitely was something! And thinking about a possible second season, Fran no longer has Bel, Manu no longer has Alex, Manu is at the center of season two, now that she has seemingly been captured but some secret agency, and like I said, Fran is the goddamn lead of this show, not to mention that Alex is in bad shape in his infected state so really, the way I see it, season two will be about Fran and Manu! I mean, they did that transition thing where they iterated from a sick Fran to Manu and in that Manu scene her caretaker told her that her condition is worse than the others’ there because she still is hiding herself, that there is still a veil between the world and her so maybe, just maybe, someone to lift that veil will be…

And then there’s that height difference between the two and the really strong scene between the two in the very short time they meet! You me and my hands and when Manu held Fran’s hand after telling her visions and Manu saying something about having to face them fears in the visions and then smiling at each other and then when they said goodbye and they hugged and then that height difference! I tell you, that is a wait and see height difference! It was like Ava and Beatrice (WARRIOR NUN) levels of height difference!
Like, the more I think of this the more I can see it…
And finally, won’t you look at them colours! I mean, it goes without saying, them neons looking like all the colours of the rainbow smudged together, a rainbow that is the flag of the community, so really, seeing neon lights is now and forever a sign!
