There are heterosexual movies, there is homosexual movies then there is this huhsexual movie! Seriously, I have never been so confused about a relationship like I am with Shirley and Rose in this movie!
Actually, for the very first time in my life I am looking for one of those explanation videos on YouTube to help me understand this movie, especially the ending! It will probably take me north of five watches to get it but thankfully, it seems that the movie is based off a book so fingers are crossed that the book will do a better job of explaining things and telling a more coherent conclusion!
Those two points raised would usually make for a bad rating, wouldn’t it? Well, not on my watch because with all that said and done, with Rose and Shirley both being married and Rose even pregnant with child, this movie is the most sensually visual movie I have ever seen, without actually being sexual!
Yeah, that sentence does not make sense but it is so true! Rose and Shirley never even once made out or had sex but their scenes, Jesus Christ, the sensuality in their scenes!!! I have never seen something like that presented so perfectly on film from written pages! By that I mean those scenes that are described in the books so well because the books have space for them and words are easier than visuals to represent people’s feelings!
This movie did the nigh impossible, it brought those complex descriptions of human emotion to the screen and even now, hours later, my mouth has yet to close! I seriously don’t know how they managed to do it! Maybe Mr Martin being an executive producer had something to do with it? But I think it all comes down to the Director and the Cinematographer because one envisions how the scene should look while the other actually makes that vision come to life and the two perfectly, perfectly did magic!
I have to read the book like I said to fully get Shirley and Rose’s relationship because while they had a lot of moments where any other two people would make out, the scenes always cut before anything happened and I am not sure that nothing happened! Something definitely happened but for some reason they did not show it despite this movie being direct to streaming! I have a feeling the book will be much more fulfilling and far above the mere 1 hour and 40 minutes or so this movie dedicated to that story!
I am so lost that I really don’t feel justified in going in depth about this movie. You should all just watch it for yourselves (already out on the interwebs) but I swear, if anyone is like me and love implications more than silver service, you are going to lose your minds over this movie! There is no kissing or sexing but Rose and Shirley have one of the most intense relationships I have ever seen!
My God!
It is so intense that the fact that they did not have a kiss scene or even a sex scene will seem like an anti-life hack because it is just impossible that they did not make out! That is one reason why I can’t wait to read that book because if those scenes in the movie were in the book, I don’t see how in God’s name there wouldn’t be any kind of make out happening!
You all really have to watch SHIRLEY!
