Wow Israel, just wow!
This is my very first movie I have seen from Israel and I have to say what a way to lose my Israeli virginity!
I am shocked I tell you all! I don’t even know why but I am so very shocked that this movie is from Israel! Does me make me a biased ass-wipe and potentially racist by implying something about a nation? I believe so and for that I sincerely apologise to my Israeli readers!
Please forgive me!
I am seriously still not over this movie even now! Smoking, drugs, alcohol, eloping, sex and gayism! The only thing missing in this movie was violence and I am still here wondering why this was all shocking to me!
But putting all that on the side, I am writing about this because despite its eye-rolling predictable SAD END for our couple, it is still one of the best lesbian movies out there! There are things that it does better than 90% of gay movies out there and that too shocked me! This was a very well made movie!
Other than that un-inspiring ending of course!
Speaking of that ending, and forgive me for starting there, but this is the way I do things around here, on the whim of course, I have to say I was a bit surprised and very disappointed that such excellence of execution was trashed when they decided to end things like that! Watching this movie, while you do expect our couple Naama (Barash) and Dana (the blonde hottie) to have a falling out because Dana seems to have feelings, or old feelings, for someone else, you don’t think at one point that they wouldn’t end up together! That ending was just so unfitting that it shaved off a lot of points that this movie had raked up!
It is sad really because this was one of the very few times where lesbians can just be girls in love without the garbage that usually comes with that, another very shocking thing about this movie, so for them to end it like that, and during the love confession of all scenes, that was a dictionary definition of a ‘dick move’!
Naama deserved to be with Dana! Especially after how perfectly she handled the fact that Dana had feelings for another woman and even after knowing that she might have slept with her when she got stood over one party night. She did not lash out, she even comforted Dana the first time she showed this love for the woman when she got upset and jealous when the woman was being chummy with someone else and treated her unlike what she wanted to be treated! Dana was sulking on the way back and Naama comforted her!
What makes the rejection worse is that Naama was actually straight when we meet her! Well, she was into guys let’s put it that way! So not only did Dana come into her life and totally turn it on its head but she left Naama in that mess with a broken heart!
And they were so good together!
Now, when you see the caps you might wonder what I mean by Naama being rejected at her love confession given that they spent most of the movie making out and dating…Well, I also did not notice until the heart break scene that they had not actually talked about it…By that I mean the nature of their relationship! And so it was later on when Naama finally realised how much Dana meant to her that she confessed and asked Dana to be her girlfriend!
That was yet another perfect execution this movie pulled off! They are young, and so it is actually perfectly plausible that they might start out messing around then emotions get involved! You know what they say – It’s all fun and games until someone get hurts falls in love!
Sadly, when she asks her to be her girlfriend, Dana doesn’t reply, meaning that she doesn’t agree and so the movie ends right back at where it started with Naama hanging with her friends at school and Dana nowhere to be seen!
Almost like it was a moment in time!
Get it?
So yeah, I wasn’t expecting everlasting love between the two but come on, why the need to end it that way? Just let them be happy at least until the end of school, yeah?
I guess it can be seen positively too that it ended that way. Naama’s sexuality is still not set! We never see her be with another girl other than Dana. Before Dana she was with boys! So we don’t know if she only loved Dana and went back to boys later or left guys all together and is now gay! That I guess it a better way to end things because it shows that she is still young and thus still has more to learn of herself! Dana though, she is 100% gay!
And that is another reason why I love this movie so much too so I guess looking at the ending that way excuses its meh end to Dana and Naama. I am a sucker for straight girls turning gay or a battle where a boy and girl fight over a girl and the girl wins!
I am looking at you Kannazuki no Miko!
Another and maybe final reason is that, the love scene was one of the best I’ve ever seen too! While it had its limit, they are supposed to be underage, first of all it is longer than 80% of love scenes, it is shot beautifully, and the reaction of Naama after said scene was magnificent! You could tell that was a life changing experience for her! The music even backed up her revelation almost like she had awakened! She does say that it was her first time (with a girl) so maybe that was part of it but that smile and look she had on as she went home after in the night…excellence!
Really, all their make-out scene were A-class! There was another bus scene that is just…God, this movie is so fuckin good!
Anyway, yeah, I highly recommend this movie! It might be called ‘Blush’ instead but it is a 2015 movie so add the year when searching for ‘Barash’ or ‘Blush’.

Another good israeli movie is The Secrets (Ha-Sodot), when I saw it I fell in love with it, it is incredible, especially because of the passionate performance of the two protagonists \\(¨o¨)//
