I ship it so hard!!
So, SyFy has a new series titled Vagrant Queen, about an Intergalactic Princess, well, now Queen by circumstance, on the run from the Colony after the death of her mother and over-taking of her throne!
Only one episode in and I am already shipping, hooked and in for the rest of the ride! Even without the gay, I still would be hooked because it is actually quite a fun series! It reminds me of those space soaps of days gone by from Britain like Red Dwarf or Terrahawks or Farscape to the others. But mostly it reminds of Red Dwarf. So really, I would have kept watching it even without the subtext.
I say subtext lightly though because while Queen Elida’s sexuality might still be up in the air, Amae on the other hand is an all out hot gay mechanic! If you watched Firefly, think Kaylee but totally gay! Yeah, Firefly failed because of that one glitch but hey, not all shows are perfect!
Anyway, the moment Amae met Elida she was smote! There is no questioning that she wants to get into her pants at all costs and when she learns later that Elida is actually royalty, not only that but a Queen, well, let’s just say that he hunt for that royal…um…you know what, has been injected with more vigour!
To tell the truth I was a little worried even five minutes in because Amae’s brother felt like a real threat but thankfully, there was no sign of any romance between those two or any chance of it happening, especially after this first episode. Then there is the Guy from Elida’s past who is going to be one of the main roster and I know a lot of people will be shipping her with him but he is married and there is enough negative energy between the two for their relationship to be that enticing!
Meanwhile, there are moments where Elida shows awkwardness when in the presence of Amae. She showed some during their first meeting, where she walked in on Amae having just had some with another woman and thus letting Elida know that she is totally gay, to towards the end where they have a talk as Amae patches Elida up. They have that *intense gay stare* moment which gets awkward so fast Elida has to escape.
Also not to forget that during their fiery getaway, when some goon shot Elida in the arm, Amae looked pissed and she made quick work on getting revenge on that mofo. Oh yeah, Amae also sacrificed half the pay for her fixing Elida’s ship for a drink from Elida! They have yet to have that drink too by the way!
Yeah, I am totally keeping an eye on this one and I hope it at least survives past season 1!
