Hailee Steinfeld as Emily & Ella Hunt as Sue

Okay dear Readers, I wasn’t planning on writing about this series but I just have to give my thoughts on it because what I have seen so far, from other fellow members of the community, frankly, is utterly shocking!

 

Believe it or not, or maybe you know already but this series while liked by many, it is apparently disliked, disliked being a mild word to describe the level of feelings, by many a lesbian out there! Now, maybe there is something more here. Maybe it has something to do with the source material and all that.

But while I don’t know anything about Emily Dickens’ actual life, and while the clashing of periods in the show was a bit off putting at first (I later got into it and actually was one of my favourite parts of the show, the quirky generation clash), I really felt like this was a true lesbian show!

No matter how I resented the rest of the episodes after Sue goes to Boston, either way I think of it, this was true and true about Sue and Emily! Yes, Sue married Emily’s brother and for a while (in her absence, AT LEAST IT WAS IN HER ABSENCE!!!) Emily fell for a guy! But even with those facts it was still clear, it was SPELLED OUT for us that Sue still loved Emily more than anyone and that Emily loved Sue more than anyone too.

We were literally told these things! We were shown these things!!! In the very damn first episode Sue tells us why she needs to marry and how she would marry no matter what. In that same episode, in fact, in the very SAME scene, she assures Emily that she need not worry because she would never love her brother more than she loved Emily!

When the Dude Emily had crushed on died, she too spelled it out for us on how Sue was and will always be the one she moves most when she says, and I quote “I loved him ALMOST as much as I love you!” Like, come on fellow citizens!

And what if Sue and Austin married!! Were you all watching the show blind-folded during the whole wedding day fiasco?! Did we forget about the conversation Sue and Emily had during the dress-up? Did we forget how Sue AGAIN, said how she wished she could be marrying Emily!?! Did we forget how they had a wedding of their own when they snuck out and got the dress dirty which got Sue in trouble?!

Did we forget the damn letter that made Sue cry right before her wedding?! Did we forget the look of NOT HAPPINESS but sadness on Sue’s face as she and Austin rode away in the floating balloon?! Did we forget the reason why Emily did not get to attend Sue’s weeding because her brother was jealous that Emily could still affect Sue so strongly even on this important day?!

How about we go back in time to the infiltration episode! Was that volcano scene (Not the bed one you Lech!) during the lecture anything but the absolute confirmation of how so much love Emily has for Sue?

I don’t get it!

Yeah sure it was obvious what the show runners were trying to do after, no, including Sue’s temporary leave and the stupidity upon her return but even then, even during that return, why did Sue come back again? I swear, if anyone says it was because of Austin just because she said that, I am going to slap you!

And even Emily falling for that Guy did bring something positive out of it! Sue and Emily had a whole bedroom conversation about it – We saw Sue finally getting some taste of jealousy where we have been seeing only Emily go through it whenever she saw the two with her brother. She admits it and she comes out and says what she actually felt about how she was being selfish!

Like, if this is not real love, I don’t know what is!

It’s not like they did not make out. It’s not like they did not have chemistry. For God’s sakes, they made out like three or four times!!!! They had sex too (albeit one-sided)!!! What else does one need?!!

Even with that, it is clear that things are going to get more complicated in the next season! I am pretty sure there is another secret that Sue is keeping and which is going to come and bite her in the butt. Even with that, it is clear that the love she has, if she even has any, for Austin is nowhere the level of love she feels for Sue! Heck, she dumped Austin in the middle of him declaring their engagement to everyone just so she could go to Emily!

Like, I don’t get it…

Anyway, that’s all I want to say. I don’t know about the others but I for one can’t wait for the next season. No matter what happens, I will be behind Emisue! To me, their love for each other is as clear as the air. No matter what happens in the future, they share a love so strong that even if they love others, it shall never erase the fact that they loved each other. Even if they forget, that moment still happened!

There was a moment in time where they loved each other.

No one loves one person in their whole existence!
