I had almost forgotten how so frikkin gay SKE48’s 8th Single was…is!

Yes, I know it is a crime worth the death penalty, that I have not written a dedicated post about this MV after all this time! I mean I have written many an article about the single already but not the typical Music Video posts I usually do! So please, go ahead and punish me, I accept your wrath!

Almost 7 years…It’s almost 7 years since this single released for crying out loud! Jan 2012, Shall never forget that moment, nay, shall never forget the end of 2011! We got teasers of the single right around Christmas and if that was not the best ever Christmas present from AKS, I don’t know what presents are!

To this day, not a single from the 48 Family, 46 Family and that includes our sisters overseas, has come even close to the epicness and balls this 8th single from SaKaE 48 had! What is even more mind-blowing is that there was much more to this Music Video that was cut, from the sheer out-there-ness of it! More about this after the jump!

There have been Music Videos from other Idol groups and Artists that have come close but not any of the immediate family holds a candle to this single! And it is not just about the gayness, just like the songs of gens long gone, the song was powerful in it’s own right! These are a rarely these days! The possibility of getting one might even reduce me to tears, because that’s how rare they are!

Seriously though, it’s been so long that current fans would not even recognise most of the girls in this Music Video! Yes, that includes both the fans that were here back then and the new! For me though, SKE48 was the shit back then! At the time I think they were my favourite because of WMatsui as MAYUKI was pretty weak back then! So while I did not have them on my mind, as soon as I saw the girls’ faces, I instantly remembered, their names, their ship partners their teams and how gay they were!

This single was such a surprise, it made the controversy of AKB48’s 17th Single HEAVY ROTATION seem like kindergarteners crying over spilled milk! It not only boosted SKE48’s rep but the girls themselves got attention outside of WMatsui! Revisiting the MV, I am still shook that AKS manages to release this at all! Like, there is no way in hell they can release something remotely close to this nowadays! I mean like, this was after the backlash at Heavy Rotation but AKS was like, “Take this L and stick it up yours Fools!”

And don’t get me started on the quality of this MV! SKE48 Music Videos have always been miles ahead of AKB48’s when it came to quality but that is really not saying much! AKB MVs are easily the worst quality out of all the sisters!! But damn, this was 2012! Look at that production quality! Not just about the actual visual Q but also the themes, the camera-work, the editing…God!

But to be fair, I was too blinded by the GAY back then to care about quality! And really, AKB’s MVs at the time were pretty decent! I mean those were the days of BEGINNER (Epic), Flying Get (Miracle), Sakura no ki ni narou (Emotion)! Those were some of the best produced MVs from AKB48!

Ah the FEELs just thinking of those years…Things were perfect back then!

Anyway moving on…

 

 

 

Let’s start with the chopping censoring I was talking about. I only noticed this now and probably only those who bought the Box and actually went through the booklet would notice this but above is the pics of the BTS of the filming of Kataomoi FINALLY! While all the gayness is great (delicious WMatsui…hmmm), what I want to point your attention to is three photos in particular! Go through them and you will notice the odd man out, so to speak!

There is one scene that did not make it into the Music Video and seeing as there is all but three pics of that scene, it had to be important! And this being released years after the music Video came out, this is no armature mistake! Or maybe it is, I mean people might have been fired or changed jobs or something but still, I think someone must have gone over the material to see if it was up to scratch?

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the scene I am talking about is the one in the rain, where the girls are seemingly having an all out war! That never frikkin made it into the Music Video and I am pressed as all hell! Probably the closest we got to this scene was the Player Jurina being bitch-slapped by Rena and Akane! And judging from the absence of the other girls, I am not ruling out a reshoot or just keeping the closeups of those three! I am so mad at this for some reason! There were some parts in the MV that did not make sense, even for a Music Video and this fight missing totally explains them to me! There is only one thing that should be done about this…

Hahaha, I kid, I kid!Not about the being pissed part though, I am indeed royally pissed! But I do understand! Gayness and underage frenching is kind of the norm in japan but violence, hah I can totally understand them cutting that scene! But that doesn’t excuse them not releasing it! Make a promotional cut and the release the full MV on DVD, I am pretty sure that has been done before! Surely there is a difference between airing it on TV for everyone and then just releasing it on DVD for the adults, right?

That fight would have elevated this Music Video that much higher in calibre than it already is and  I guess that is kind of a bad thing because the possibility of it being topped then would have been truly astronomical!

Epicness!

Let’s talk the song and the dance! SKE48 was already known as the dance group since its inception, with that crazy entry TSUYOKIMONO YO! But this single stamped the image into people’s minds, especially since KataFina came right after another pure dance number Oki Doki (7th Single)!

The song is memorable too but more than that, this time the dance complimented the Music Video in a way I have never seen before! There was an edge to the Music Video, which by the way would have come across more had you left in that fight scene in the rain SKE Management (no, I am not going to shut up about that!), and this was not only reflected in the powerful lyrics but also in the dance parts as well!

Seriously, this single was pure perfection!

And unlike a certain group that shan’t be names, the quality did not drop coming from the story side of things to the dance parts! No, that quality remained consistent and to this day I still think of KataFina as one of the best shot Music Videos from Team Yasusu, especially the dance shots!

And those uniforms…God! They are hands down in the top of the best of all time! And this is without even mentioning the killer zettai ryoukis! Like Jesus! The producer and director of this Music Video went all out on everything! The dark red almost magenta colours also add to the story of the A side with it’s impactful representation!

God, I love this single…And I haven’t even gotten to the gayness yet!

God Dear Readers, Jesus God!

It’s been years and this kiss is still the stuff of legends! It’s as if the Music Video was just released only today! I still can’t fathom how those geniuses managed to do this and getaway with it, well they didn’t, kinda but you know what I mean!

This kiss and Kuminon (Yagami Kumi and Kimoto Kanon) is so fantabulous that it is a undeniable scientific fact now that there is zero chances of it being topped in any future Team Yasusu Single! I had to fight with myself like a maniac just to get rid of the other 90 screencaps of the scene because I frikkin took that scene into Photoshop and grabbed every single frame of it, went through them with a sharp eye until I got down to 90 and even then, it was a battle of the century!

But sacrifices have to be made and so we shall have to settle for these few only! The scene being in the first minute of the MV is like a hit so hard, you could never forget it, like it was your first time touching yourself or having sex! It stays with you until the end of time, or in this case, until the end of the MV!

Does this play in WMatsui taking a back seat to Kuminon in this music video when their scenes come? Maybe! But I guess it was right getting that out of the way so the shock would wear off as the Music Video progresses! Better to start with it than to end with it! That way people don’t take last thing they saw of a 16 year old French-kissing a 13 year old! You know the drill, the last thing you see is what impression you take away from media!

This MV was of course the birth of my KumiNon shipping fever! Before this and also sometimes after, I was a KumiYuri shipper at heart but this Music Video came and slapped in the face with this ship that I had absolutely no choice but to ship!

I still miss them terribly, damn it!

You know what, I was right in my assumption that showing that Kuminon kiss first thing totally over-shadowed all the other gayness but come the hell on, WMatsui, especially given the fact that they were my No.2 ship at the time (behind MAYUKI of course), to think that all their awesome gay scenes couldn’t elevate them to the top in the ships in this Music Video totally drives the point home!

I mean hello? You all know my kind of yuri, which is the soft, almost subtext kind! The one that is so simple, like having eye sex, hand sex, simple touches, all things that WMatsui did here and yet they were not what stole my heart from this Music Video! I mean yeah, them being in here is also another reason why this single shall never be beat in addition to Kuminon but still, these are WMatsui!!!!! Check my Fiction section for context!

Though now that I think about it, I wasn’t really hot Churi back then and neither am I a fan of >2 partners in a relationship so while there was WMatsui, Jurina’s slyness totally reduced some major points! I mean she was just there with Rena, having taken hold of all her attention, they were literally eye-fucking! But then she dissed her like she was a sandwich wrapper she had just finished consuming, or more accurately, had just gotten sick of, and off she went, chasing after Matsumoto Rina!

Like WTH Juri-baby?!!

And let’s not forget about Akane too! Like how could she just accept Churi’s necklace, knowing full well what that gesture meant and Churi’s feelings for her, then taking that same necklace and giving it to Rena like she had just bought it with her broke money to show how much love she had for Rena!

That’s a No-No from me Jurina!

I mean I guess the ending, with my interpretation of the scenes, from Jurina slapping Rena back while not slapping Churi back, showing that the feelings were mutual between her and Rena while she felt she deserved it from Churi, and then later on with Churi choosing to go for her other rival Matsurina, as if they had resigned themselves in never ever getting Jurina’s love returned, I kind of taken of some negative points from Jurina if she did the right thing and choose Rena in the end!

I mean, if we are taking this song as Rena’s story, which is about first love, then it came true, right?

The other ships only got a brief shout out at some (definitely) sex motel! I definitely did not see that Rina x Churi twist coming! I mean, I have heard of heart-break sex where people who feel lonely give into the basics and go at each other, sometimes they even might hate each other but their pain would be strong enough that they are willing to sleep with the enemy, so to speak! I guess there is truth to the saying that ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’ or is it friend with benefits this time around?

But while them holding hands and Churi topping Rina like it was ‘69 *winkwink*, Kaneko Shiori and Hiramatsu Kanako nose-doing it, with flowers (hopefully from Shiori to Kanako) and then cheek-doing it again in addition to doing the Alpha pose, they were totally up there with the stealers of the secondary ship of the MV! It’s too bad K.Shiori had Matsumura Kaori already because I would have been all over these two back then! Before the drama MOUSOU DEKA hit that is, and then I would be a bitch for Kumin x Kanako!

Interestingly Kuumin was alone with Non nowhere to be seen! Well, we know where she was at! Also O.Shiori was over there trying to put out the fire that was going on between K.Shiori and Kanako! Not that I am complaining, much, I mean there were a lot of KumiYuri shippers and I was one of them too so…I’m just saying…

God, this Music Video is just so perfect! Like, I literally see no way this will ever be topped! No way in HELL48! If AKS had wizened up and given us a graduation single to end all graduations with MAYUKI fuckin not only centring the first ever but also the last ever single together, in addition to it being 3 times more gay than anything that has come before, then definitely KATAOMOI FINALLY would have been topped!

But nay, AKS is the worst run business in the history of business so really, you get my point!
