Well hello and good evening!
Nothing major, just another wonderful, wonderful lesbian short film, this time courtesy of the wild, wild West! So short in fact, it puts the ‘short’ in short film, at a mere 0:04:49 of runtime!
You would not expect anything from something so short, I mean, this is Music Video levels of runtime and we all know how those never make sense at all! They are like visual poems and less than 10% of people know what the story is outside of the creator themselves!
But fear not. The one who came up with this short knew what they were doing and what had to be done! In less than 5 minutes you get all you need to get! You understand that our two girls are best friends, and probably since childhood. You understand that Jessie (Kelsey, dark hair) has been harbouring strong romantic feelings for Mimi (Diane, blonde), for Lord only knows how long! You understand the naivete of Mimi and how she’s been so oblivious to Jessie’s feelings but also having deep lost attraction for Jessie.
Understandably they are the only people we see in the short and we meet them just at they start the Drink or Drink game, which is a variation of the Truth or Dare of course. But instead of the dare part, you take a swig of what I think is vodka if you don’t want to tell the truth! Which really I think people who play the game can take the decision to drink as being truth to their question. I mean why not tell the truth unless the answer is the truth and you are just to embarrassed to say!
Things hit high octane right from the get go when Jessie asks Mimi about her sex-life with her boyfriend. Yes, she has one. Things quickly escalate when Mimi lets slip that she has never had an eruption (you know what I mean) and things went even higher when she not only asked Jessie to tell her how it feels, but that she has to SHOW HER!
Um, Mimi, dearest, you don’t want to go there! As you can imagine I was screaming at this! Even though they played it off and understandably Mimi might be already wasted, as well as Jessie herself, I am pretty sure they are going to be remembering that conversation months to follow! And really, from the way things end, you bet they are going to be having that tutorial on how to see stars, so to speak!
Just imagining Mimi’s first is driving me nuts!
Speaking of taking the drinking as truth, next up Jessie asks if Mimi would ever hook up with a girl! You can totally see it in her facial expressions and hear it in her voice that she is asking this question with intent! In addition, Mimi on her behalf, has a moment where she look at Jessie, really looks at her, takes a moment in which she bites her lip, totally having a million thoughts running through her brain, before she grabs a bottle and takes a swig!
Drinking means the answer is yes to the question!
Not that anyone needs a degree in psychology to figure this out given what happened next! Like I said, drinking means yes, and Jessie seemed to think the same because as soon as Mimi places the bottle down, Jessie is going in, her fingers on the back of Mimi’s neck, she pulls her in for a kiss! Of course any sane character would first have a negative reaction to this, especially if they had boyfriends and all that!
Which Mimi does and in fact mentions the said boyfriend but of course as usual, the attacker takes offense and storms off as usual! Like Jessie, girl, it’s all on you! In fact Mimi was pretty tame in handling the situation! You were also pretty impatient! It was not the right time yet! Like, it seems you have the house to yourselves! Hang in there until you get to the bed room and have taken some more alcohol. Mimi was obviously on her way there. Like when she leaned into you after the fireworks moment. You should have hang in there. I am sure the sleeping would have been something else!
But I guess if she waited then they would have had to go through some major recovery time where they did not talk of what had happened the night before, and having sex is a much bigger deal to get over than just kissing.
But like I said, the creator of this short knew what they were doing and in deciding to have this conflict here, it made Jessie and Mimi come to terms with their feelings sooner rather than later. They get to put this out there now instead of leaving it and blaming the alcohol and loss of memory!
Jessie decides to leave and you can see that Mimi has a moment of conflict but she does not let Jessie get away! She runs after her and then kisses her! Totally saying all that needed to said and setting in motion their future relationship.
I have to confess I certainly wasn’t expecting that kiss! I mean, if they failed the first time, there was no way we were going to get another attempt in less than 2 minutes! That’s what I thought but again I was surprised! Not only did they have one but it also fit! It did not come out of nowhere! Both of their feelings for each other were hinted at during the game and now that the elephant in the room had been brought up, well, I dare say that you can’t expect a better ending than this, unless they went hardcore and had Jessie ‘show’ Mimi!
Really though, this is such a lovely short! I am really awed by how it managed to tell its story in less than 5 minutes! I am beginning to really love these short films more than feature length ones! There are movies that are over 90 minutes and yet they always leave things unfinished!
Anyway, yeah. Definitely recommend this one. Here are the link and caps…
