Part1 – Ayko and Lee
In the wake of every major streaming service starting their own thing (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc), it was only a matter of time before Google/YouTube joined in the fun as well! And I gotta say, what a way to get onto the scene!
Their first original project and series is aptly title – ORIGIN. It’s about a mission to go inhabit a newly discovered planet with many volunteers, most those who wanted to leave their lives behind and most, not so great people! That of course means this is a Sci-Fi series and I love this genre! At the top of my list is Horror > Sci-Fi > Action > Fantasy >……………Romance! I really can’t stand Romance genres! That of course doesn’t mean that I am against romance, I mean otherwise I wouldn’t be writing about Ayko and Lee here!
Anyway, the genre alone had me curious about this series so without even knowing anything I went about binge watching it and dear Readers, I wasn’t at all prepared for the yuri in this! As you can see, this is Part 1 meaning that there is another couple that I will be writing about in a different post! But unlike Ayko and Lee here, the other ship is a slow burn and I don’t think we will be getting anything from them until Season 2, because not only did the series end on a major cliff-hanger, only appropriate for an episode in the middle of the series, but the other ship also ended on a cliff hanger! I was like, what the hell!!?!
But more on that in their own post, for now let’s get back to the ship at hand – Ayko and Lee. You know, I was kind of debating whether to do a video instead of a post for this but then I realised that I have been making lots of videos lately and neglecting the blog. Not everyone likes or can watch the videos, what with the bandwidth limitations and all that! And so I think for the next few projects I am going to put videos on hold and make posts instead.
So Ayko and Lee. Is it me or are we getting a lot of interracial couples lately? Believe me, I am not going out of my way to seek them out! Yes, I confess, again, that I find them pretty irresistibly hot but I am out searching for them. Case in point, there is another movie I will be writing about soon too, which also, yes you guessed it, has the same couple! Anyway please World, give me more of these couples! I am addicted it seems!
Back to the story at hand, I swear, I need medication for this condition of getting off topic every damn time! The main story goes, the ship that was carrying the passengers got into an accident and while most evacuated the ship safely, one colony was left behind because the person in charge had the stupid lead in love condition where they disobeyed protocol just to save their boyfriend! And so this colony woke up to an empty ship with everyone else gone, except three others! Two of them were injured and each seemed to blame the other for their injuries, these two are the stated stupid lead and her boyfriend.
Turns out the accident was the ship running into asteroid debris which was carrying some symbiotic extra-terrestrial lifeform. It fuses with the victim’s minds and slowly eats away at their minds until they lose it! The boyfriend was of course infected and the third mysterious person not member of our colony was infected as well. And so the few left behind have to survive until they get to the destination planet! Yeah, good luck with that!
But in a surprising turn of events, quite a lot of them survive. Each member got to have their own dedicated episode to explain how they got to be chosen for this mission and also about their lives back on earth of course! Only one did not get a back story and she is half of the other ship I will be writing about in Part 2. This post is about Lee’s (Black-English Girl) backstory! Unfortunately Lee bites the dust in continuation of the bury your gays cliché but at least we have the other ship ready to sail and since one of them is one you might consider the Lead, maybe they will survive season two once they become an item!
Lee at first comes off as the quite, keep to oneself type and we find out that she is not a people person. I know that feeling since I am the same! Anyway back on earth she was one of the best hackers, if not the best but she was rogue! Using the old ways, she was always on the run because the law was out for her head. But while being alone is not so bad, sometimes someone needs another to talk to. And really, since there are androids around, why not? And so she buys herself one of the newest series of models – Ayko. With a 99.2 percent user rating, surely what could go wrong? And really, Lee is a hacker so if anything that was not what she was worried about.
And so we enter the hottest relationship on the show, at least in season 1! Ayko are basic in their functionality. But Lee being the hacker she is, she gives Ayko more advanced functionality, basically giving her a conscious, despite Ayko’s continued warnings. But eventually she too is drunk on the knowledge and she keeps asking for more until she basically becomes capable of thought and feelings, which would usually mean trouble where artificial intelligence is concerned but that is not this story!
Instead Ayko keeps her sanity and ends up developing feelings for Lee. She even sacrifices herself to save Lee in the end, well, not sacrifice but rather, manages to save Lee before she was destroyed/rebooted/reset/whatever! Lee was wanted all over the world so the only way was to go off world and Ayko helps her get on that ship and off to space and beyond she went!
Okay, that was a really quick conclusion of their story but despite having only an episode, well, half an episode since the show would jump back to present and past, their story was complete and there was enough material to make a dedicated video of them. I am sad that they both died, so to speak but if there is a cyber heaven somewhere, I don’t have a doubt in my mind that are there right now.
They had time to do everything. They got to know each other, and after getting a conscious, Ayko researched all the information she needed on Lee to know her enough to the point of saying that she felt like she had known Lee since she was young. Ayko was basically the internet but with feelings. There is this one time they were on one of their dates and Lee says the place reminded her of Peter Pan’s world and within seconds Ayko had read the book. I am still surprised she did not go all Skynet but hey, that’s the power of yuri I guess. If it were a straight romance, I am sure things would not have ended well. Proof in all other cyber romances out there!
While this was not a both girls saved the other type of situation, which I love to heaven and back, Ayko did help Lee overcome most of her fears about connection, girl was even afraid of a simple touch, and I guess Lee giving Ayko freedom from all other cybernetics is a way of how she was saved! Sure they had a BAD END but in this case it was for good. I am of course talking about the end as in to Lee and Ayko, not of their lives. Lee went out in a bad way and I hope her killer gets a worse fate down there on that infected new planet! Why did she even survive!?!
I’m calm, I’m calm. Interestingly it was Ayko the machine, well, program, that did all of the advances because like I said Lee was an introvert. She was the first to smile. She was the first to touch. She was the one to initiate the hand holding and she was the one to start off the kiss! Well, it partially a way to deliver data through Lee’s weak spot (talking code here) and Lee’s weak spot turned out to be her lips. That’s why the were glowing.
There is this pill Lee invented that shows back doors to other people’s programs and since every person in cyber space represented their data store, a glow on any part of their body would be the area in code that is very easy to crack. When Lee took this pill as demonstration to Ayko in their plan, her lips glowed, showing that there was her weak spot. And so partially the kiss was to transfer data to her and partially because Ayko wanted to kiss her as she so obviously loved her.
That confession happened in Peter Pan Land, where they had the most romantic scene as far as I am concerned! And no, it was not because of them holding hands! Yes, hand holding is better than sex as far as I am concerned but here it was more than that! Here is where Ayko confessed. Here is where the face caressing happened. Here is where Lee overcame her physical touch barriers. Here is where the eye-sexing also here. And of course here is where the hand-sex happened first as well!
In addition to Per Pan land, they had their secret spot in cyber space as well where Lee was sure no one would find her and it was where she would run off to whenever she was running away from the police. In this secret area is where Ayko got to grow out of her limited program self. It is also the place where they had their kiss! And it is where they had their last goodbyes are well.
Actually now that I think about it, I believe it was a scene of the two in this place in the trailers that made me notice this show. It was why I kept an eye out for it. Otherwise I would have waited until I had like three free weeks to watch this but with that trailer and seeking these two staring at each other like that, my heart skipped a beat and my curiosity was raised to level attention!
Back to the present Lee did play a big role in the survival of the rest so her death wasn’t completely in vain, just like Ayko’s wasn’t when she gave Lee her freedom before she was destroyed! I am sad I won’t be getting any more of them, unless Season 2 goes back in time but on the bright side, we have the other ship to look forward to as it has just started and has just enough subtext to keep us on out toes and paying attention!
Well, that’s that. If you haven’t watch the show yet, check it out. Maybe you can spot the other ship I am talking about before the post hits…
