Just kidding!
Or am I? I mean the second season of this show just ended on a fabulous lesbian note and you know how Netflix is with gay shows….that aren’t OITNB of course! They get axed sometimes faster than you can even finish binge watching the show, and they are at most 12 episode shows! Anyway, jokes (or are they) aside…
WHAT A GODLY ENDING!!!!
If you watched the first season (which I did after I watched that trailer for Season 2 that somehow gave me vibes enough to get me to watch the show), you might be reading this and laughing thinking that I am on crack! You might wandering where in God’s name the gayness could come from when our girl Casey (Bridgette Lundy-Paine) was so straight in the first season that the Dublin Spire would be jealous! Not to mention her boyfriend is actually a very likeable character, which made me really have weird feelings and question my sanity during this second season a lot!
So you might be wandering how that girl can be in a post about lesbians!
Well, I do not blame you and I expect that doubt! I too, even as I watched things unfold before me, still couldn’t believe it! I still can’t believe it! I am ready for the show to pull Casey’s Mom “it was a phase” bullshit in the next season but by God, the way they got handled in this season, Casey and Izzie (Fivel Stewart) I mean, it was so well done and so out of the norm I am still shocked it actually happened!
See you all, I told you I am being shocked a lot lately! I think I am losing my A-game you all!
Anyway, back to the series, it started out normal! I swear to you I was ready to dump this series by episode 6 and in fact I deleted the first six episodes because I was so pissed at how easily I was manipulated but I help on until the end and dear Readers, I think I have learned a good lesson from this series – Don’t be too quick to judge!
The show really did its best to make you think that the usual romance drama was abound and if it had happened like that, if there was no gay, I wouldn’t have blamed them at all! Nay, anyone who will be shocked it will be because of the gayness, not the straightness!
What I mean is that they were doing things like Izzie telling Casey that she did not want any drama. They both are very straight girls with really hot boyfriends and our main girl Casey’s boyfriend like I said is pretty likeable! Izzie’s boyfriend is kind of a douche but he is a Jock so he can be excused by design and he is hot! Then you have Casey’s boyfriend dropping lines like being afraid some guy will steal his girl friend (he doesn’t go to her school) and then you have Izzie’s boyfriend so obviously crushing on Izzie!
Drama! The kind I hate!
And then you have Casey and Izzie who bonded after starting out on a cold shoulder, hitting it off pretty good, enough to have a sleep over! Then Izzie’s boyfriend kisses Casey and then I was so about done with this show because I was warned but I chose to ignore and instead believe in my yuri-sense!
That happened in episode 7! That is only three episodes left! I was like, surely we couldn’t go from that to a happy place any more, right? But Atypical was like…
Seriously, this show loved beating me to the head with my stupid expectations when it subverted them like it was flipping burgers! I seriously thought that Casey and Izzie would be enemies for the rest of the show, her being that rival that our girls needs to keep growing (and her arc interesting)! But they made up by episode 3 and they hit it off so hard they were practically Instant Besties!
And from that moment on Izzie went from Nay to Yay at the speed of the Millennium Falcon! Seriously, this girl is so irresistibly adorable I can’t even…She would come up with these cute things to do that just made them so shippable that even without the gay having happened, they were sure to win over a fanbase!
Seriously, we need more movies and TV shows that utilise such simple actions! Sometimes simple is best! Sometimes a simple look, or something girly like reading scary stories and freaking out together during a sleepover, God, when was the last time I watched a couple who had a cute sleepover? Oh wait…I just did (more on that in the next post)
Anyway Izzie and Casey scenes were so super cute and adorable that if you watch this show and don’t hail them as one of the new ships, you are mad! So many simple scenes that just make your heard melt! And they are so innocent because you know they don’t know what they are doing actually is going to affect them! And it is usually Izzie that does them! Like that locker scene where she puts on lip, stares at Casey’s lips then offers her the lip he just used!
You know what that means girl? Casey on her side she doesn’t use it…well…not on her lips. She instead takes it and write on her wrist with it….for some reason! And for some reason I found that action completely hot!
Then there is this moment during the sleep over where they are silent and Izzie calls Casey her new favourite person because she makes her laugh and happy and…Then she gets embarrassed but Casey then also says that Izzie is her new favourite person and asks her not to tell her boyfriend (O.o)
So innocent and when you watch to the end of the series and then go back from the beginning and you see them and you know that they are being affected by these simple actions without them knowing it and you are like literally melting for them on the inside!
I just…
Nope…No jealousy here…
But the IT moment came during Casey’s birthday party! The two are still in the no-peaking mode but Izzie is the track team captain and she has to show team spirit so she had to come, also she really isn’t mad at Casey as we find out soon!
Anyway Casey loses it finally and as she goes to her room to cool down, guess who comes up to talk to her? That’s right, not her boyfriend, not her childhood friend, not her Mom (no, she just comes up at the wrong damn time!!!), not them but Izzie!
Of course they have the talk! Of course they talk about their fight!
Then things begin to get interesting when Izzie reveals that she was jealous but of the obvious! Not because she was losing her boyfriend to her best friend (they definitely were at the level already), who also had her own boyfriend! No, she was angry because she was losing something she loves but not her boyfriend…screw him she says! No, she did not want to lose Casey!
My eyebrows near fell off! I literally shouted, WHAT?! in the middle of the night!
Then Casey was also like, I do not want to lose you too! And they make eyes at each other without even knowing it and you are like melting for these oblivious birds in new winds they know not about!
Then Izzie be like, let’s make a forehead promise and Casey be like, what’s that? And Izzie be like, come here let me show you! And they ae touching foreheads and you frikkin know what the hell is going to happen and it frikkin happens and you are shouting at the top of your lungs in disbelief!
They are doing the thing!!!! You know, THE THING!!!! Making eyes at each other, looking at each other lips alternatively as they do their souls through each others’ eyes! You know it’s coming! it is coming! You see it in both their faces that they know it is coming despite not knowing what it actually means!
THEY ARE ABOUT TO KISS!
They kiss with their noses twice…TWICE! it is about to happen! You still can’t believe your frikkin eyes! Your heart is definitely racing almost as fast as theirs definitely are bound to be!
Then Mom happens!!
And a very loud FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK comes out of your mouth not even caring that there are people sleeping in the rooms next to yours! But you have never been so mad at Moms as you are Casey’s mom when she interrupts the two!
They are strangers at these feelings! They are both as shocked to what was about to happen! And so you kind of forgive their reactions to that moment! You forgive Casey walking up to her boyfriend the moment they get back downstairs and kissing him right in front of Izzie! You forgive her because that is a very expected way to react for her! You take comfort too in the feelings you see in Izzie as she looks on! She is affected by that action! You take comfort in knowing that Izzie has realised what is happening to her! She has seen the light!
Then came the Holy Grail that is the Ending!
Oh! My! God!
I don’t even know what to say! Such a simple scene! So simple! Just them holding hands! That’s the scene in the nutshell! That is it but Jesus, I feel like crying at how perfectly executed it was! Nothing was said! Just the music playing in the background! They did not even look at each other during the Final Supper! The emotions in both their eyes! You know what they are feeling! You see it on their faces!
You want to cry for them! You want to comfort them because there is so much going on here! They don’t know what they are doing! They are walking blind! They have an idea! They know the repercussions! The fear is plain to see in their eyes! The fear of what is ahead of them! You see it but it is nothing compared to the other emotion that gives them strength! The courage to face that fear and pain that is awaiting them! You see them ready to face it head on, they will be fine! They are fine! Because they have each other! It is all they need!
Bitch, I am crying so what!
The screen cuts to black as they intertwine their fingers and both look on with confidence forward! The change is more apparent in Casey because if you remember, she was the one who escaped into denial for a while! before the Last Supper she was even telling Izzie of her sex she had with her boyfriend! Dick move but like I said, you understand her! Izzie too understands her so she doesn’t let that affect her!
The scene guys, I have never been for hit with an ending like this! Everything Sucks was great but you saw that coming! They had already gotten together before the kiss! hat kiss was just the deal breaker! here, the two are at Step 0 even as the screen turns to black! They have just lifted their first foot and we are cut off before that foot touches ground!
I swear to the good Lord of you cancel this show and don’t give us a third season I am going to curse yo forever Netflix!
God!
What perfection of a scene!
PERFECTION!
Bye
