Thank you God, for the birth of streaming sites like HULU, Netflix and AbemaTV! For with them, the world is finally changing! We are finally getting content as it is intended to be consumed without being bound to regional laws (well, not so much), which then results into ‘Murica finally giving us great couples like the above!

Other regions are following suite. Japan shows running on HULU and Netflix are already miles ahead of the normal TV series and while they have yet to start getting into quality yuri shows, they are getting there. Meanwhile America is already into the game with two favourites of the year so far.

First we have the series I already posted about – The Runaways from HULU, a series about characters from a comic book, and I don’t want to say it but…I TOLD YOU SO!!! I had been told that Nico and Karolina have no chance since they didn’t in the comics but then I remembered the McGuffin of them all, Pretty Little Liars’ EMISON and what happened to that canon and I stood by my yuri-sense! I am happy to say that the series did not disappoint!

Thee there came something out of nowhere! Something so new that I actually only found out about it last week, got all episodes and watched them in a single marathon! Thing is the episodes were partially out in HD and so I had to settle for low quality in some of them but I was so invested that I did not even care! Also I knew this being a Netflix series that eventually we would get the top quality ones and they eventually dropped and of course that meant re-watching the whole series! And dear Readers, what a ride!

Both series ended on a note only befitting of a FINISH MOVE hence the best name for the title! Seriously, this year has gone off to a great start and while things might change in the following seasons, that is if there are following seasons (Netflix, get to it! Where is out Gypsy sequel!!?!).

I was lost in what to do, make a music video of these two new awesome couples or write about their finale episodes! In the end I decided to settle for both so a video will be following in the future! Since it has also occurred to me that I have another family on YouTube I did not even know about. So I have to keep them fed too.

That’s right Ladies and Gentlemen, Karolina just about stole the girl from right under a Boy’s (Alex) nose! Yeah sure, they haven’t declared their love for each other yet or anything but come on! You have got to be the most pessimistic person in existence to think that they are not in lus-love with each other by the end of season one!

Speaking of stealing the girl, both these two and the other two are like re-enacting out that NTR anime! In this case Nico is in, and still (since they haven’t actually broken up yet) is with Alex even as she totally sent the signals that she is ALL IN for Karolina at this moment in time! Meanwhile over in Everything Sucks, both girls were in a relationship with a boy, now of course with Kate, she tried to make it clear that she doesn’t love Luke more than just a friend and in fact she did indeed come out to him, but Emaline is a weird one. She did not necessarily break up wit her boyfriend, he brought up with her, well, left her for New York and their relationship was pretty bumpy already but there was a moment towards the end when it seemed she still had feelings for him but we shall see! The point is in both cases this is not a ‘first crush’ type of deal so excuses of ‘I didn’t know what I was doing, I was new to love’ will not fly with me if they try to use it later on.

This is what makes these couples so great and interesting to me. Karolina had a lot of chances to go the straight route. She was, is, female-lead material so the fact that they went all out with her, and with Nico of all people, Nico who has a boyfriend, a boyfriend that is the main lead in the show…That takes guts and requires some respect points from me! The worst thing that can happen is that Karolina falls in love with a different girl, which means that Nico pulled some beta crap, which I don’t see her doing so…

I mean, it is not like her feelings are in doubt here! They were in the early episodes where it seemed like the feelings were all on Karolina’s side only but since episode 9, since that first kiss, a kiss that was allowed to go on and on, with Nico obviously reciprocating, a kiss that had multiple contacts, a kiss that were it not wanted Nico had plenty of chances to push Karolina away or let the scene end on discomfort, none of this happened and we had a moment that was magical instead. The looks on both their faces told the story yet to be told!

After that things shifted gears into Nico’s side of the story, almost as if the writers were reading my first posts about the series and saw my complaint about being shown only Karolina’s take on things without giving us what Nico thinks of all of these projected feelings from Karolina towards her.

Episode 10, the finale was about Nico, in terms of this relationship, seeing as Karolina was out of the picture, having sacrificed herself for her friends to get away (she is that badass!). Speaking of the sacrifice, Nico’s reaction when Karolina chose to stay behind while they ran away was bordering on ‘No, My Love!” Then later on she even snaps at the others because she was so upset that Karolina was out there fighting for them while they ran away.

Like, that is so love!

And to hit the ball home, when they rescue Karolina (the sneak-look caps), Nico doesn’t even lie about the fact that she fought for the others to stay and rescue Karolina instead of just running away. Another point I almost missed! Nico only had one thing on her mind and that was going back to rescue Karolina, while the others were all ready to jump town and disappear!

But the point in this scene has to do with the kiss. While the first kiss was initiated by Karolina, here it was Nico that started it! Such a heartfelt kiss without any shenanigans and doubts of it means! They are a so thing!

Now, the questions that remain and might be answered in the sequel are, does Alex know? We certainly didn’t get a single scene where it was implied he was onto something. I mean, he is smart but they better explain how he found out. Does Nico really love Karolina or is it circumstances? I mean, I have to think of other conditions too.

But, that is all in the future, and if we do get a sequel! For now, this is perfect! Even if we don’t get a sequel, Nico and Karolina are IT! I can’t wait for more of them though…

Oh jeez…

First of all this is just the last episode, there is much more about these two from the previous episodes but since I am writing about the endings of these two shows, I am limiting the caps to those episodes. Another reason why that music video is in order. Also this is why a marathon is not so great sometimes! If I had a break between episodes, you damn well best be sure that I would have started from early episodes!

But no use crying over decisions already made.

So, Kate and Emaline…Like I said, this train came out nowhere, then again, that is the rap-sheet for all Streaming shows especially on Netflix! At least HULU and the others still release an episode a week. Not this one! And so I was pretty over-whelmed when it hit!

This series did something that rarely happens to me. I have to say that in the early episodes I so did not see the Kate/Emaline thing at all! I was like, there is no way in hell the main female character is going to be gay, and not only that but gay for the hottest girl in school, already dating the hottest guy in school but then I was bitch-slapping myself the next instant because…these two are like in the same exact positions that Nico and Karolina are in!

The…exact…same!

Karolina is the alpha female in The Runaways, right? But she is in love with Nico, who is dating the male lead and while that is different there is the fact that the Hottest Guy is in love with Karolina. Chances of them happening in the beginning? On the surface, zero! Meanwhile here we have Kate, the Lead lady but she is in love with Emaline, the Hottest girl in school, who is already dating the Hottest Guy in school. Meanwhile The Male Lead is in love with Kate! Think of them as flipped triangles! Either way chances of these two ships happening are almost zero when you look at things at face value and by that I mean start of series.

I was the same. I actually thought that it would be Brittle, Kate’s friend, that would be the love interest and Emaline’s bitchiness towards Kate in the beginning did not help!

I was so wrong! I was so deceived!

And I love it!

When you think of things a bit later, you do realise that Kate actually was in love with Emaline from the very moment you meet her in that cafeteria! Now much later you realise that it was the Hottest Guy that she was staring at during that time and it wasn’t because he was kissing another girl (Emaline) that she looked away in pain! No, it was all about Emaline from the very beginning!

As for Emaline, her side of the story actually also started picking up quite early on! She comes off as the cliché Stupid-blonde (She isn’t actually blonde HA!) but she is quite smart actually! She is one of my favourite Bitches and I just so love her character and speech. It is such a clash from the image she tried to put on for her Boyfriend that I can’t help crush on her too! This gives more points to Kate because it means that she saw the real Emaline from the very beginning!

Going back to Emaline’s story as opposed to Nico’s, there were moments earlier on that the director would choose to focus on Emaline’s face and see her reactions and her character would build up like that, little by little and only those paying attention would pick up on it. For example the scene where Luke confesses to Kate on live broadcast and the whole school is watching, as we focus on Kate’s disturbed and scared expression as she thinks of what to do, we cut to Emaline too and we see her stone features and a hint of discomfort, expectancy? and…is that some disapproval we see? She then looks away when Kate says ‘Yes’ to Luke totally hinting at things.

Another great thing about Kate and Emaline is their change from the beginning of the show to the end of the season. Like I said, Emaline is the hottest girl in school. You expect her to be dressed all girly, all cute and most times hot! Meanwhile Kate was the boyish, no boobs, dower girl at the beginning!

But by the end, they are opposites! By the end it is Emaline, not Kate, that wears shirts and trousers! It is Kate not Emaline that dresses all girly, wears makeup and the Bottom! By the end, Emaline has even gotten herself a piecing, just like Kate, and just like Kate, through the nose too!

Emaline also turned into such a great girl, maybe turned into isn’t the right wording, I would say she returned to her real self! She did tell Kate that she had to change in order to be with her boyfriend but here with Kate, Kate who thought of her as the most beautiful and hottest girl she has ever seen, Emaline doesn’t have to pretend to be someone else. She can be just herself with Kate!

Kate, the first person to ask Emaline what she wanted. Even asking something that is a given like, if Emaline would like to sit with her in the theatre!

But what is Kate getting out of this? Well, just her Crush since forever, the hottest girl in school, loving her back. Nothing much, am I right…

And don’t get me started on that kiss of theirs that was accompanied by non other than Duran Duran’s Ordinary World! I frikkin love that song and it is in contention of being the BGM of the incoming music video! Despite Emaline being a kissing Queen, even she, just like Kate, who already kissed Luke and thus this isn’t her first kiss, both of them felt something completely new and fetching (As our Sue calls it – it’s like being fetched)

The kiss though had more visible impact on Kate because she was like a walking zombie after that kiss! I don’t even want to try and think of what was going through her mind right then! She almost came out to her Dad right then and there but the arrival of Luke and his Mother interrupted her and left us with a wondrous Kate, finally coming to terms with what the implications of everything is.

Again, nothing we shall know until the next season but we do know one thing and that is that she that she has finally confirmed that she is 100% GAY and Emaline is a Goddess at kissing!

Really can’t wait for that sequel Netflix!
