AVAN LAVA – Sisters (Official Uncensored Version)
With this music video let’s switch gears into familiar territory. Even if you yourself hasn’t been in the situation where you fall for your best friend, it is a common setting in lesbian movies. Even if not that there are more examples with unrequited love which is never a simple thing.
Also for the sake of morality, let’s just ignore the title and go with the setting of them being best friends or metaphorical sisters…
First off, I can’t believe I am only finding out about this now. This Music Video has apparently been up since 2012! Like, talk about fail! I guess somethings can’t be found unless you go out looking for them.
Anyway, remember how I was just complaining about the previous MV having only ‘good feel’ moments? Well, I shouldn’t have bothered because there was another that was filled with so much hurting it was enough for both MVs! That MV is Sisters.
I am not sure why the title because I did not get any sisterly feel from the women. Usually you can just tell and really, which sisters hang out until they are that age together? Well, I can hear someone whisper ‘sisters with a special bond’ but it did not seem like they had that kind of bond. And usually sisters who have that special bond are usually living the life of seclusion just the two of them. These had other friends with them, one had a boyfriend and their friends had boyfriends.
Opening the MV with a love confession was kind of a cheat though, if we think the most possible ending ended up happening, that being the boyish woman committing suicide a la Hui-hua (The Twin Bracelets). But to be fair you can’t tell if they both meant the same kind of ‘love’.
This is one mature MV in that sense. Not in the sense of the last MV with the sexual innuendos but rather the subtlety of the themes within. I can go on record and say there have been a good number of gay people who have killed themselves because of circumstances like this one here where they finally get the courage to confess, go beyond that line, most usually no thanks to their crushes who don’t make things easy when they send mixed signals, and when they get turned down, usually is a very ugly way, their hearts can’t handle the rejection and sometimes the rejection brings garbage with it that is just too much so they end up giving up on life.
That is the darkest it can get and while we did not see it happen, it was implied strongly towards the end but I will give them props for trying to hide it from the less attentive folk, who will overlook it because they mixed in a somewhat positive scene which I think was a flashback in a ‘life flashing before your eyes’ kind of way.
That flashback is one of those mixed signals that our Tomboy was getting from her crush. I am pretty sure they went the whole mile at a certain moment in their lives and there are these scenes where you just know the crush knows her friend is in pain from seeing her have fun with her boyfriend and tries to comfort her but with the wrong tactics; sensual actions that only really close people would do with one another.
The jealousy was shown pretty clearly. There were many scenes where they blatantly put it there, the couple having fun while our girl looks on with obvious pain in her eyes. Like, how many ships have we seen that are in situations like that? Poor Arisugawa Juri, poor Daidouji Tomoyo…
There were some sensual moments but no sexual or even a kiss. Should I take that as proof that they were actually sisters? Maybe, maybe not, since all other aspects were dumbed down too. But, the intimate scene we did get they did to the MAX and they have my favourite – HAND-SEX.
Anyway, enough of this, I am not one for negative feelings. See ya around…
