I guess I should get one thing out of the way first…These two are sisters in The Sinner! No, not adopted, half, step whatever, these are real sisters…in the story that is. Jessica Biel is not related to Nadia Alexander in any way.
Still around? Let’s commence.
Yes, another talent going to the TV route! I am loving this trend where talented actors are getting TV roles. I do not know if it is the quality of the shows that bring the talent or the talent bringing the quality of shows but I am very grateful! We have gotten some really great shows lately with great talent (loved, loved, loved American Gods).
It is strange that TV shows are actually showing more competence than big budget movies these times. The Sinner is one such great show!
You won’t actually believe why I started to watch this in the first place. It wasn’t because Jessica was in it or because I saw some screen caps that hooked me. No, what really grabbed me was a simple tweet that had this cap with the subtitles on it that said…
That was it! That simple cap that had no hidden meaning whatsoever is what got me to watch this show! And man I tell you now, I was not ready! You know me, I am one of the Master race when it comes to the wired. I have seen almost there is to see but I tell you all now, that first episode of The Sinner hit me so hard I never saw it coming!
And you know what they say, first impressions are everything and once something grabs you, it demands your attention and this show had mine, all throughout the eight episodes of season 1! Yes, it is short but great things come in small packages. Actually now that I think about it American Gods was also 8 episodes, wasn’t it! Anyway, even though I won’t be seeing the sequel, this first season was enough for me! it was complete and I can safely jump off here and not miss a thing! I have seen all there is to see. But if you are not me then you should perhaps stick around. There might be a surprise there. Even if the reason I am not continuing on exists, there is one for others to stay with the show, maybe!
You see, I have this thing where I am very royal to a ship that I choose and whatever happens to it, no matter how great the potential new partner is, I can never accept the replacement. And so, while There is potential is Jessica Biel’s character Cora and Danielle Burgess’ character Maddie having a thing, somehow, with the way this show tells its story you can never know what might happen, I am already married to Cora/Phoebe!
And Phoebe is dead!
Yes, Phoebe is Nadia’s character who is Cora’s sickly younger sister. Of the two it is very hard to tell who the actual sinner is. Yes Cora has already killed fools but she was the angelic one of the two. She was seduced to the dark side by the seemingly, no, actually quite innocent Phoebe! She was turned, slowly, by Phoebe’s coercing over the years.
This show dear Readers, it goes from definitive zero to WTF in the first episode and things keep on escalating from there. You start with an actual blank slate of Cora’s character and then over time what was a blank white wall is filled with detailed but complex painting of the the seven levels of hell!
I swear it is very rare seeing this level of smart story telling! Everything you think you know is turned upside down in the following minutes and it all makes sense! Nothing is as it seems and it is in this chaos that Cora and Phoebe’s thing was well digested by critics and everyone I believe. Currently 94% of critics (I hate you RT) and 90% of audience love it!
Seriously, in this over-sensitive climate we live in, I really thought The Sinner would get crucified by reviewers but I guess the the GAY FORCE has Ryzen! I mean come on, Cora and Phoebe’s relationship could easily be a romantic one if they were not related! But they are, and really, seeing that bedroom scene ( the scene that I kept pausing on and chanting ‘it is not going to happen. they are going to cut’ but things kept going to the point of leaving nothing to the imagination, I really thought the show was done!
But the joke was on me!
Really, even the show runners probably were thinking like me because in the end they went for the ‘Bury Ur Gays’ trope anyway but killing off Phoebe right in the last episode. Right on her birthday too (You monsters)! And while she was having sex with a Dude (You villains)!
I ain’t even mad!
No, seriously, I am not mad! In fact I am commending them for being able to go as far as they did! Seriously, I am not sure why I am so shocked by this show and the idea of Cora and Phoebe anyways! I mean, Brulee is not only a love story between sisters, but they are twin sisters, who were played by actual twin sisters in real life! Surely I shouldn’t be that surprised by some WINCEST but I guess I was still a bit naïve in thinking that no one would ever go as far as The Sinner went with Cora and Phoebe outside of pron!
Seriously, I am still shook! And this is enough wall of text.
