YEP! That happened!
Like, did I accidentally into a different universe?! This is episode one, right?! They did not just move in together in the frikkin first episode, right?! Somebody tell me this is not a dream! I need to pinch myself. Excuse me…
Okay, that…that really hurt!
Alright, let’s wind down by first talking about the cast! See this JTBS? This is how you do frikkin sequels! With a close to a 10 year gap CODE BLUE managed to bring back their full cast for a 3rd time!! Something you couldn’t even accomplish the second time with only months of time between?!
Yes, I am still disappoint!
Seriously though, did all these actors go into a stasis chamber in 2010?! No one seems to have aged a single day! Like, how even!?! But not only are they still the same on the outside, but their personalities are 1:1! Like, how?! And it’s not like the series just picked up from where we left off at the end of the second season! No, the series is moving in real time! But the character chemistry is as if they were still on going all these years and we are just being dropped into their lives at this very moment!
This is the definition of a sequel! Nothing feels like it is missing! All the things that you loved are still there even as time has gone by where you haven’t kept in touch with their lives but you do not feel left out of the loop being dropped back in! We are in a sense like Mihoko (Toda), who is also just joining the group once again after some time away!
Also interesting to note is the fact that they do not put most of the focus on the new Trainees like I feared, like how other sequels on this sense seem to do it! No, our girls and boys are still at the front of things and interestingly, just like the second season, Mihoko seems to have a huge chunk of story time!
Yeah, in case it wasn’t obvious she is my favourite character, duh!
But with that said, let’s move on to the episode…
Meat the new girls on the block, two of the four new Fellows. The nurse is Futaba (Baba Fumika) and the aspiring Doctor is Akari (Araki Yuko)! Their personalities are already magnetic opposites of one another which can only make me think of the two attracting one another later on, maybe. We just haven’t gotten any insight into the relationships between the new Fellows.
What we know though are their personalities! Futaba is too serious for her own good. She is is already Aizawa’s 2nd coming. Yes, I know she is a nurse but still! Well, of you prefer, you can say that she is Saejima the 2nd but even she wasn’t this serious and uptight! Hell, the girls is already trying to sweet up on Aizawa. No, I do not mean romantically, though I wouldn’t be surprised if that were to happen!
Meanwhile Akari is a complete air-head! Seriously makes you wonder how she managed to get into medical school and even get this far! But that being said and done, she is my favourite of the new Fellows! I would totally be up to it if she and our resident lesbian Mihoko…uhhh…I mean if she and Mihoko were to hit off this Senpai/Kouhai relationship, I would be for it! But best of all, the reason why I love her so is…
Mein Gott! Those are some heavenly level of lips sculpturing! God was at his best when he moulded her lips!
Ahem, this is getting out of hand. At this rate this post will be over 10k words long!
Megumi and Mihoko’s first re-union!
Look at that Mihoko, making her entrance all Badass like this was her show or something! I mean come on! What better way for a Doctor to make an entrance than being covered in soot and over-looking a patient?! There isn’t one! And Megumi’s reaction? understandable! If this were an anime you would see her heart beating and heart-shapes in her eyes!
I lean look at her smile in the second last pic? And you too Mihoko! You so did not have to move all the way around to stand right next to Megumi!!
Man, 1 minute with them and I am already over-flowing with love for them!
Something is definitely afoot with these two!!
I will take it!
While on the subject of Badass Mihoko, I found it interesting that as soon as she entered the ICU, she was multi-tasking while she low-key inspected and took in the state of things and all those that occupied the place! Like, forget Megumi, we all know who is the true person in charge here!
No subs and thus I do not know what happened since we last saw these two or even if they have talked about it yet, like where Mihoko has been all this time but we pick up with her coming back to the hospital like I mentioned. She doesn’t seem to have a place to stay (at least not nearby) but more on that later!
And also in these first few moments we get teased with something else we do not know. There is something between Mihoko and Mitsui-sensei that seems to have happened in the time between season 2 and this. Mihoko’s curiosity with Mitsui-sensei is way deeper than where we left them last season! More on this later too!
But anyway, it seems like Mihoko works out the state of things in those few moments she is back and I feel like she is us, the audience trying to figure out what we missed and how things are!
Leaving on the side the fact that Yui reminds me of Rena (with their love for Bread and those similar facial features), Fuikawa, showing us how he hasn’t changed or even grown-up in these 8 or so years, drops the first bomb by bringing up what was going on with Mitsui-sensei!
The show seems to hint at something there between the two because they put emphasis on Mihoko being shocked by what she had heard! Megumi tries to derail the subject but she ain’t successful. Really, if anyone knows something it has to be her! I mean looking back to the last season (or was that the Special) Mihoko kind of dropped the bomb with her line of marrying someone like Mitsui-sensei if she were to marry for money and not love!
Um, sorry, I just want to take a moment to appreciate Megumi looking all cool and badass here! She is so in the auditions of trying to woo Mihoko! But don’t quote me on that, this is me just speculating!
And this, my dear Readers, this is the moment where that thing begins! Mihoko is looking for somewhere to stay and she so casually asks how far Megumi lives! To which Megumi replies hours away! But clueless man boy Fuikawa spills that Megumi mentioned that she only lived minutes away by car. To this I applaud him for once and say, never grow up Fuikawa!
What was interesting here was the fact that this means that these two haven’t had sleep-overs all these years still! Now yeah sure apparently Mihoko moved away but still, I was under the impression that they had gotten close enough in season 2 that at the very least one of the two would have invited the other to their home! But apparently not!
And no, I do not blame Megumi for lying to Mihoko, implying that she doesn’t want her to move in with her. These two are still very different. Megumi seems like one to avoid drama while Mihoko is back in her true form, and by that I mean Mihoko unchained!
Interestingly though, in the next episode we spy that Megumi too has a fiery side to her where in fact she scared Mihoko for a change! But that is a story for another time!
And yes, those last caps are of Mihoko tells Fuikawa to shut the hell up! Mihoko tells it as it is! She doesn’t take no bullshit! Now if only she and Aizawa got to trade swords! Oh well, I guess that is one bridge we shan’t cross because it seems the writers are avoiding those two interacting like the plague! I wonder if they are saving it for something important? Perhaps there will be a face-off later on? I mean this is one of those times that a threesome is out of the question!
And so we once again had to put up with those Megumi/Aizawa scenes, just like the first season, just like the second season! It’s like they have to balance out the Megumi/Mihoko moments with Megumi/Aizawa moments! Have to milk the shippers until the dawn of time, am I right!
Thank the Lord they have no idea what they are doing because if they were going for balance, they have lost their touch because Mihoko won this first episode by a mile! But there I go again getting distracted!
Oh how I missed you Elevator-kun!! I see you are back to bringing mischief to our girls! And could it be? Are you a shipper too?! I mean that explains why you punished Megumi for trying to go behind our backs and corner Aizawa in the elevator!
I kid, I kid! It was an accident that they met there, just like the many other times! And really, it was Mihoko who implored Megumi to go and talk to Aizawa, to ask him to come back to the ICU because things are fucked and golden boy needs to turn to complete the fam!
I mean, not that I mind! The Aizawa/Megumi thing I have come to terms with! And speaking of, from a single line I learned that they are childhood friends! I mean, in the first two seasons I knew they knew each other but not to that extent! And apart from that one baiting Hana-something anime, childhood friends never ever win the girl so there is that too! And really, I have yet to see something to make me raise an eyebrow! Hell, even as Aizawa tried complimenting Megumi I felt nothing, really, the compliments even flew over her head!
So really, I am not that…
OMFG DID MIHOKO JUST…?!!! SHE SO DID NOT!!!
Mihoko so did not just casually touch Megumi! This here Ladies and gentlemen, this here is the very first time that Mihoko has touched Megumi! Sure the last season Megumi touched Mihoko but even then Mihoko first shrugged her hand off of her and even then it was a necessity because Mihoko was crying her soul out and she needed comforting!
But here? No, this was not necessary! And guess what happened prior to it? Mihoko had just finished compliment (was it a compliment?) Megumi by saying that she to hadn’t changed! Previously she had stated that Aizawa hadn’t changed, before she told Megumi to go talk to him! Now here she is also saying that Megumi hasn’t changed! For s person who hasn’t been there this has to be a compliment. People who have been away for a time feel strange when they get back to find the people they left behind have changed!
Mihoko touched Megumi, so casually, like that! And yes, this is a big deal for me! Mihoko hasn’t been that touchy with anyone and since I have already watched episode 2 as well, yes, she touched Megumi once again, casually too, where there was no need to touch her in the first place! only that time it was not in conjunction with a compliment but the opposite!
That is actually even more interesting because she is touching Megumi in two different contexts both positive and negative! Like, are you a couple or something?! Who is seducing who here exactly!!!?!
Elevator-kun the series – part 2
Meanwhile Elevator-kun strikes again! This time it is with the other low-key ship with Mihoko and Mitsui-sensei! Seriously, what secrets are going on between these two?! Why is Mihoko so obsessed with Mitsui-sensei’s private life? Why is Mitsui-sensei feeling so guilty on behalf of Mihoko?! What the hell is going on?!!
No no, I know what is going on here in this scene and with them so far! Mitsui-sensei is leaving the ICU! This was not a secret but Mihoko did not know anything about it! If I understood correctly, Mihoko came back in part thanks to Mitsui-sensei and she is kind of mad that Mitsui-sensei is leaving having made her come back.
In this elevator scene, Mihoko just wants to know why! She wants Mitsui-sensei to at least tell her why she was leaving, given that they were under-staffed already as it was! But all Mitsui-sensei does is apologise. But she looks so guilty that my heart breaks and so does Megumi’s!
Seriously, what is going on here?! What happened between these two to put them at this level? I guess we shall be finding out! it was probably explained in episode 2 but there are no subs and I am no Japanese local so…
Mihoko’s first return to Heli-chan!
First episode and we are already getting the girls riding Heli-chan by themselves! This is a first not only for this new season but for all seasons! Girls only time! I dig it!
Totally fighting the urge to lose it at the fact that their fingers touched multiple times as they passed each other medical equipment, we have our first scene of the two working on a patient together, totally bringing back memories of season 2 after they became mutuals!
That moment when they made eye contact, that moment when Mihoko had to go and help their new Kouhais, and they had this moment where they spoke wit htheir eyes as if Mihoko apologising and at the same time trusting Megumi to take care of things there by herself, and then Megumi letting her know that she is okay and trusts Mihoko to look after her Fellows (remember, they are more Megumi’s underlings than Mihoko).
I think I died!
Like, how perfect can one start of a sequel episode?!
Yes, that is Mihoko wearing Megumi’s clothes! And yes, I just put Mitsui-sensei/Mihoko/Megumi caps together!
Come now, it is common knowledge who the master ship here is! And let’s be honest, especially with these two first episodes of season three, the chances of Mitsui-sensei/Mihoko happening are absolute 0.0! But really ,even without the Tachibana-sensei thing, the adoration relationships rarely work out! This is on the same level as the childhood friends thing! in other words, all I take from this is confirmation that Mihoko is into girls and the reason for the caps joint is to appreciate that after the bad news and hit to her heart, Mihoko went straight to Megumi!
Yes, yes, I know it is her work space but come one, she could have easily gone somewhere private if she needed space but she came here!! And it’s not like the scene was useless! Without even meaning to, this decision affected Megumi anyway, which brings us to THE moment…
Look at that smile! Megumi did that!
She could have gone somewhere private to think and wallow in her pain at whatever the hell is going on with Mitsui-sensei and her but Mihoko came here to sit with Megumi! Why did she? We don’t know! She doesn’t know! But what ended up happening?
She went from sad Mihoko on the blink of tears to totally happy, over-flowing with happiness Mihoko, all thanks to Megumi! She wouldn’t have found those feelings in some private place! Megumi did that! She made Mihoko happy! And it is not only Mihoko that benefited from this. Megumi too did but since I do not have actual evidence for my specs, I will leave it for another day!
So, what did Megumi do for Mihoko to make her so happy?! You did not forget the opening caps of this post, did you? Go back up and read them right now! Anyway the gist is that having seen Mihoko so down, and seeing that it wasn’t such a huge deal, the request that Mihoko had asked her before, when Mihoko goes off to sleep her troubles away in the room next door (she was camping at the hospital for the moment), Megumi stops her and says that it is okay for Mihoko to come and stay at the place with her!
Mihoko is at first confused, having totally forgotten about it, and understandably, having more important things to worry about (Mitsui-sensei). Megumi lays down the rules (too soon?) saying that Mihoko can move into her home but that she has to do what Megumi tells her to, both at home and at the hospital!
Like, let’s talk about that for a moment quick. is she seeing this as a long-term thing because come now, laying down the rules of the house is just not something you do for a short stay over! And why does Mihoko have to follow your every word even at work? You are totally equal and if someone is to be the top of things it is Mihoko dear!
I guess though that she does this, try to grab power over Mihoko, because she knows Mihoko is the top of the two! I mean come on, that girl is assertive like no one’s business!
Surprisingly Mihoko agrees, with a smile and happiness flowing from her being, rushing back over to Megumi’s side to the point that I thought she would hug her too but alas! Really, if Mihoko had refused at being Megumi’s bottom, I think Megumi would have caved but Mihoko let her have the moment, in turn giving Megumi something too. Megumi who seems like things never go her way, no one wants to listen to her, she feels powerless even as she is the lead Flight Doctor and in charge of the ICU but then here be Mihoko, the fiery girl that if there was one who would not be tamed would be her, here is Mihoko, who gives Megumi power over her!
Like, how not to ship?!! They compliment each other so well! They take care of one another and understand each other! sure No one understands Megumi like Aizawa does, understandably, but Megumi knows all there is to know about Mihoko and I hope that this season will balance things out and Mihoko will get to know Megumi personally a bit deeper. Them moving in together seems like the perfect way to do this! Mihoko is bound to find out deeper things in Megumi’s life once she is in her home! Having let her into it, Megumi has taken one of the major steps into letting someone into your life!
I can’t wait to see those moments of them in their home alone! Come on Japan, hit me! Do not tease me until towards the end of season or I will end you!!
Oh yea, these two are a thing! Fuikawa, you lucky bastard!
And of course we end things on the there is something going on between Mitsui-sensei and Mihoko as Mitsui-sensei let’s it known publicly to the ICU personnel that she is leaving and apologising for the inconveniences caused. That time when the two steal glances towards one another, with Mihoko when Mitsui-sensei is looking away and vice-versa!
Then you have Megumi on the side watching Mihoko because she knows how much deeply her friend is affected by this news! Man, I can’t wait for them to talk about it at home, in the comfort of that couch I know is sitting in front of the super 4k television! Hopefully during some sappy romance movie and sharing a blanket when Mihoko breaks down and Megumi protectively places an arm around her and pulls her into a comforting hug and…
Time out for you Black Gekikara!
Good night folks!

Where is the lesbian moment?.

Hmmm… Wasn’t Hiyama’s attraction to Mitsui merely platonic — also the citation from the SP, was she’d rather take a pay-cut like Mitsui deed, rather than marry for money — or something resembling a Master-Pupil relationship? Generally speaking, I think the first episode was good enough to keep the audience and fans –like us– satisfied. The new Fellow’s seem to be worst than Fujikawa when he first arrived at the EMS. Another technical correction, it is not the ICU, but the Emergency Ward in which the Doctor Heli staff work, which includes the HCU and ICU. It’s a secondary level EMS… Anyway, back to the show, I was also distraught by Mitsui’s leaving, she was my favourite doctor after Kuroda! Though I am not entirely surprised that Saejima and Fujikawa became a canonical couple, the fact she’s pregnant, did. Who would’ve thought of Fujikawa as a stallion…? fufufuf. I’m still ordering my perceptions of the first two episodes. So far, I’m enjoying it; just give rescue a bit more of attention!

Hi Shirou, been so long ^^
Thank you so much. I always know I can rely on you to correct me when it comes to Japanese.
I do not know what Mihoko’s deal with Mitsui-sensei is but I do know it isn’t romantic. I just want to know what happened between them to make them so…I don’t know…involved?
Yes, the new Fellowship lack something but like I said, I am glad they aren’t stealing the show. That is something I hate about sequels, when the main characters take a back seat for the new (I am looking at you Nanoha!!!)
Now that I think about it, Jufikawa isn’t really a surprise is he? Him and Saejima. I mean hell, thinking back on the last season he was still going for her even as her boyfriend was still alive, somewhat (I am bad I know)!
Anyway, yeah, the show has be on board too with these first episodes and can’t wait for more. Will Japan join the rest of the world and give us real unapologetic television yuri between famous actresses?
One can dream
