Space and Time has no Power over GAY!
Akemi Homura agrees!
Finally, finally dear Readers, a relevant Doctor Who post! Oh, how I have waited for this moment! Ten seasons, 10 whole seasons and we are finally here Ladies and Gentlemen! Finally, a season of Doctor Who worth writing about, here on this particular blog that is!
I already said it, in the other post, and the only one, of Doctor Who, which was about the LIVE show, but I am a huge fan of Doctor Who! Well, the 2005 gen that is! I have been following this show since then! And since it is a given, Tennant is my favourite Doctor, then Capaldi (the current one and in this episode)! As for the companions, Rose is a no brainer as my fav then Bill!!! Now, not to be mistaken by favourite female character in the series! That honour goes to the one and only River Song!
From what I understand, this is going to be Capaldi’s last season as the Doctor, which is really sad because I have a feeling it is going to go down as my favourites, especially if Bill and Heather pull through, which I think they will but more on that soon. I really love Capaldi! it is such a breath of fresh air to have a Doctor that isn’t so tied down to the companion, who are always lessened down in appeal because of their attraction to him!
Ah but this season, this season things are different, completely different! You won’t see Bill lusting after the Doctor this time! And the Doctor himself is not the green horns that have come before! Capaldi is a warrior Doctor so he is kick-ass first then mingle! Nay, Bill is a whole different companion partner! She is not only not into boys and only has eyes for the Ladies, but by the end of episode 1 of the season 10, she is already taken!
And best you stay away because her love is right there on the top of the food chain! She took out Daleks like they were nothing! Time and Space mean nothing to her! She is even better than TARDIS and this is when she is not complete yet! Once she has all the knowledge she needs, she will be of godly levels!
What a grand first episode! I am kind of sad that Heather won’t be showing up any time soon but I am comforted by the knowledge that she will be returning! From what I deduced in this episode, Bill and her are definitely going to be meeting again and I can not wait for their re-union!
First things first though, the introductions! Our new companion Bill Potts is played by new face Pearl Mackie and I am already in love with her! I love her personality, I love her fashion, I love her mannerisms, oh, and di I mention that she is gay, gay, gay?! Well, she is! In one episode already and I am already shipping her with three other girls! Her roommate, I don’t know what their real relationship is, probably guardian/semi-daughter, but I don’t care, ship! Her crush that she made fat by giving her extra portions of chips at lunch? Ship! Then of course there is Heather!
Heather, Heather, Heather – Bill’s one and only soulmate that is already dead by the first episode (really Mr Moffat? Really?!!!) Ah but she is not actually dead! Well, she is but she isn’t! Ah how to explain it? First let’s introduce the actress that plays her, she is played by Stephanie Hyam! You fellow Mid-landers will recognise her from Sherlock (Abominable Bride) and Jekyll & Hyde! And oh yes, did I mention she has a star in her left eye?!! No wonder Bill was head over hill in instant love with her! Seriously, where does one find such hotness?! I guess she had to be that good to out-pace the Doctor’s charm!
With experience in this world, I expected Heather to have some kind of secret about her as soon as I saw her! Seriously, the first reason was her beauty! She is so cute/sexy it is so unreal! But then the way she was so open to meeting Bill, inviting her out of the blue to go somewhere with her, my alarms were going off! I really thought she was the villain of the day, and she is indeed but that is such an over-simplification of her!
The first time we see her is in Bill’s dreams! No seriously, Bill had a dream about Heather before she even met her! That scene in the club was a dream! or was it?! This is so out there with the likes of the Flash/Bruce scene in BvS where you are not sure if it is happening or if it is a dream or even something that is going to happen! The ending hit the nail home for me when in the visions that new Heather was showing Bill, that scene was in it!
Why do I think that it did not actually happen? Heather really! She came off as a loner, always thinking of leaving this place to go somewhere, never smiling, totally hating her eye-disorder that she is thinking of getting rid of!
That is not the same girl that was lively and smiling at a stranger in a club like we saw in the dream! Also the fact that they were standing right there in front of one another, looking like they already knew each other, and yet later on when Bill went over to a sullen Heather chilling at a bench, they just introduced themselves! None of that, ‘hey, you are the girl from the club!’ or something of those lines!
And also remember that there is something about Bill! There is this thing she said to the Doctor about her Mother, which had something to do with her dreams/delusions! She has a power to her! the Doctor probably knows it, which is why he was so fascinated with her in the first place! This is a secret for now I think and I believe they will be coming back to it! (Is her mother even really her mother?)
So, taking in the possibility that she has a power, that is to say she is not normal, then her dreams of Heather are not simply dreams! Their meeting was not just a coincidence! Then add in the fact that the writer decided to take that route with Heather and you just know there is something brewing within the threads that shall hit us later on!
Heather at the beginning is just a normal girl with an eye disorder! She is not some alien disguising herself as a human! Though you have to congratulate the writers because they really wrote her like she was hiding something! But in fact what she was hiding was a truth that only she could see because of her defect! that secret was these puddles of water that did not dry no matter how much time passed without it raining and whenever she looked into the puddles, her reflection looked wrong to her!
Those puddles turned out to be a remnant of a very advanced Spaceship that was just waiting for an purpose! Heather’s desire to go far away was so strong that the ship assimilated her, making her its pilot and consciousness but because of what had happened right before she was taken, she did not leave and stayed to haunt Bill!
At least it looked like new Heather was out to hurt Bill but there was always something off! Why Bill? The Doctor being glad that new Heather was not after his precious box but rather them, was totally wrong because new Heather was never after them, she was only ever after Bill!
You see it when she attacks goes to Bill’s home! She doesn’t do anything! She instead actually does what Bill asks and she leaves! Later on outside the school, new Heather just stands there in the shadows! She doesn’t reach for Bill at all until Bill goes near, then hesitates and says that Heather is dead! It is then that new Heather attacks reaches out for Bill! A bit later in the Doctor’s office when new Heather appears, she only has eyes for Bill until the Doctor opens his mouth but even then, she only spares him a glance! Her whole posture is faced towards Bill!
They jump through time and space, all the time she is there, just following Bill! When they go to the end of the world, some millions years into the future, when new Heather sees Bill, she smiles for the first time since she was turned! But then they had to whisk her Bill away again so she still pursued! They taker her to one of the greatest wars in history, where the deadliest fire is bound to be found, fire that is the Daleks’ weapons! The try to get her destroyed by a Dalek!
The Dalek got destroyed by her, and she wasn’t even trying! new Heater is essentially a new born! Before she is awakened when she touches Bill towards the end there, she is still dormant, still learning, only mimicking what she sees! That Heather managed to destroy a Dalek! But that Heather is no more! Her consciousness has returned, thanks to Bill! Finally, she is no longer mimicking, the first of which was her saying Bill’s name instead of hers when Bill called out to her!
All this magic BTW, happened through the ethereal connection that is hands!!! Jesus, like, you just had to go and make them hold hands, didn’t you Mr Moffat? Make them thread their fingers for good measure too, huh?!
I love you good Sir!
With all the Doctor’s lectures on time and Space and Possibilities, then Heather showing all those things that could be, will be and was to Bill, then Bill managing to resist the temptation and instead choosing to release Heather from this trap she had locked her in for centuries upon centuries (where Heather is concerned, though really, her perceptiveness of time and space is different now) was the right call!
new Heather had been going after Bill all that time because Bill had made her promise to not go anywhere! Also there is that wish Bill had where she asked Heather if she could come with when Heather said she wanted to go away from that place!
All that had been about Bill and their promise! All Heather was after was simply to be with Bill! Heather is now Timeless! She can be anywhere at any time! She is essentially a time machine like TARDIS but much much more!
And with that touch and what they shared I believe that they are now connected! With bill’s secret ability and real self, I am already seeing them two ending up together! Bill obviously still loves Heather! At the end when the Doctor was going to wipe her memory, Heather was one of the reasons why she was so adamant against the idea! When the Doctor did not erase her memories, the very few that were most important to her that she thought of first to make sure they were still safe, included that dreamscape scene of hers and Heather in the club!
When the Doctor finally officially invites her to be his companion, he says to her that she will meet heather again in this vast Time and Space! They are going to meet again, there is a secret that Bill has that will make their relationship work! I truly believe this!
Just like how the last season ended on what might have been one of the BEST ENDINGs ever, with ‘Me’ and Clara going off eloping until Death finally catches up with Clara but since her time was slowed down to almost a stand still, she was essentially immortal and we all know ‘Me’ is also immortal so not only have we gotten a kinda yuri end in the last season, we now have a honest to goodness lesbian and has already gotten herself one mighty girlfriend!
What a time to be alive!
Can’t wait for next episode! I am still baffled by Heather’s beauty and the fact that we have a gay companion! Like, how even! Now, if we were to get a female Doctor next, I won’t even be mad of Bill falls for her!
Go BBC, Mr Moffat, I believe in you!
