Age of Youth 청춘시대

Apparently not, if I can still fall for bait like this new K-Drama Age of Youth! You can’t blame me. I have been seeing caps of Yi Na (The sexy one) and Ye Eun (the cute one) since episode one and when I saw caps from episode three where they kissed and episode 4 where Yi Na did the Floor-don on Ye Eun, I just couldn’t contain myself!

I bit that bait and got stuck on that stupid hook now I can’t seem to get free, even as it turned out to be a trap! And what’s worse is that there was even another hidden bait in there that of course also went nowhere!

You would think that with my experience in this matter I would have managed to resist but the hook line was just too strong! I did a quick search before downloading the four available episodes but that did not help in the least. Keeping in mind I had already seen that kiss on twitter and the don, then seeing the poster filled with the five main girls and no guys in sight I did not see any reasons not to get it and so I did.

Yes, the kiss was nothing romantic, actually it happened because of one of the worst moments ever and then there is that floor-don. Okay, so that scene was all kinds of emotional and cute and depending on whether they actually grow balls and go through with these two and make them a thing, it might be quite an important one down the line.

Yi Na sees girls like she changes clothes, Ye Eun has a boyfriend, though after this episode hopefully not, hell, all girls have a crush or are boy crazy one way or the other. Even the new innocent flower is already entangled in a stupid triangle. Not that I had hopes with her. She is the main character, kinda, so chances of her being gay are like, <0.01!

But what about Yoon-unnie (the one eating her cake)? And why am I still watching this anyway even though I know now it was all a lie? Well…

 

What of Yoon-unnie? Well, this scene you see above happened right after ye Eun adamantly tells Eun Jae (our main girl) that Yoon-unnie is not interested in boys. Actually Yoon-unnie was depicted as one that definitely keeping secrets in the lines of ‘I have a girlfriend actually’, with the way she, and this might sound generalising but seriously, if you were gay, you would so want to confess to her, wouldn’t you? She just gives off that aura.

Then that scene happened, and there is this thing in the air that speaks of a history between the two and there is that hidden story about a girl who used to dance and room with Yoon-unnie before Eun Jae came about.

Like, how can I not take it as meaning something? And speaking of that girl, I totally remember her from somewhere! But wher—Ohhhh! No, it can’t be..Surely…

Anyway, Yoon-unnie has also found herself in a triangle now even though she only truly seems to like only one of the guys but we know they are gonna go there eventually.  So forgive me for getting a bit angry and feeling let down and baited because of this!

I mean okay, they might still have had something and it might turn out that it was one sided which is why the girl moved out of the share-house but still…Any way, moving on

Like, seriously! How am I supposed to not stay hooked to find out where this is going? Characters are never that on each other’s throats and just make up just like that! Either its less intense and thus we know they are only having a friendly fight and thus making up later on or they are truly enemies through and through and thus wouldn’t have all this worrying about one another.

And so for me, their fights and their closeness seems like the perfect journey to becoming the perfect partner to one another because if they can get through that, they are definitely closer than simply friends, or can be.

I mean come on! Ye Eun treated Yi Na like she had all the world’s worst diseases just because she found out that Yi Na sleeps with men in exchange for money. Not like Ye Eun is innocent herself because she is not just like Yi Na states.

There are small things as well that probably mean nothing like in a house where everyone knows what belongs to who and seem to keep the privacy, to see Yi Na just using Ye Eun’s cups like it was no big deal, or coming in for breakfast and grabbing Ye Eun’s coffee straight from her hands and taking it for herself and better, the fat that they both go vent off to their men right after their fights like they were little kids crying to their parents about that boy bullying them, that boy who actually has a crush and bullying is the only way he knows to grab attention.

Yeah.

And let’s not forget the way the two, well, more Yi Na, care for each other. Even as they were still in the middle of their fight Yi Na still defended ye Eun from her so called boyfriend when he rough handed her! Then soon after Yi Na warning Ye Eun to stay away from that guy and never seen him again because she was worried about her and just wants to protect her.

Notice too that Yi Na says that when she is mad drunk and thus with no restraints on her soul so whatever she said was truly from her heart. Ye Eun of course got touched by this, and rightfully so. Too bad she never got the chance to show appreciation because Yoon-unnie beat her in offering a sleeping Yi Na some warm covers.

Also interesting is the fact that if we think of ye Eun as someone who has a penchant for falling for dangerous boys, think of how her relationship is with Yi Na sometimes – rough. But unlike the guys, Yi Na deeply cares for Ye Eun so is it really far-fetched to think that Ye Eun could end up falling for Yi Na?

I mean she already got kissed and even if it was a reactionary action to tick Ye Eun off, one cannot help what dreams they have and if you add in the fact that Ye Eun’s relationship is not going well, if there is still one even, add in the spice of that affection displayed by Yi Na when she floor-don-ed her, well, that’s why my site’s title is as such.

Maybe I was spoiled by the likes of Lily Fever and Sunam Girls pushing the envelope and now The handmaiden breaking similar grounds in the Cinema universe but I just had to check this out and stupidly, maybe, maybe not, I am still going to watch on. Gotta confess that the fact that romance is not the central theme here also helps in the watch factor.

Also that fast-forward button comes in handy ^^
