So sorry this took long but a Reader reminded me of this when they commented and reminded me of how awesome Miyu is and so here we are with the second episode/part of this story.
Seriously, Miyu was a total Badass in this movie! I really love TGS, they know how to utilize the girls’ traits/skills. Of course Ayano and Mei would play Angela the Diva of The Narrows! Of course Yuri would take on the bouncer role, with her usually masculine ways. And of course Miyu would play the scary role! Many people cower under her just from looking at them! Definitely the best choice for a yakuza!
Then there are the relationships between the characters. Just as usual in their works, there would always either be something between Miyu and Hitomi or Miyu and Mei. They were connected here too, in fact much more so than usual all three were connected unlike before. The intensity between Hitomi and Miyu was off the charts this episode. Sadly it is not in a romantic way but rather in that clashing way! They are enemies, there is no denying that but at the same time there is something under the layers that just makes us fans jump in our seats with giddiness!
Interestingly Ayano wasn’t neglected this time around. She is usually the third wheel when it comes to pairings but not this time. That is all I have to say about her at this moment as anything more would be spoilers. Then again I am pretty sure if anyone has seen the first part they have seen the whole movie seeing as it is not broken down into parts. But please pretend it is!
Meanwhile with Mei and Yuri, things go back to the usual with them not being utilized in official works. The only time we got MeiYuri was in Tsuioku, before and after that Mei was strangely almost always paired with Miyu. It got to the point where I thought there would be bad blood between those two. But then again it is all professional, Yuri still gets to have Mei to herself outside of work so…Anyway let’s move this along.
HitoMiyu open the second episode like it was God’s will or something. Private Eyes Hitomi is seen buying a bouquet of flowers. He is of course planning to deliver them to his Angel (Mei). On the way he meets Boss Miyu who seems less impressed with Hitomi. Miyu is disgusted with Hitomi to see him going from running for his life to hitting on girls. Hitomi tells him off saying that ‘where there is life there is love’. He tells Miyu to mind his own business.
Sorry Miyu but why do you even care about this? You are a cold hearted gangster that shouldn’t give a rat’s ass about other people’s business! Could it be that you are jealous? I mean I can’t rule that out. It has been a while since we got some HitoMiyu and those Guys up there should be aware of it so were they hinting at some of that here? I mean, if it is then it’s actually yaoi and not yuri in this universe but I will take it! I don’t know why but lately I have started to get into BL. Who is to blame for this I wonder!
That wasn’t all though, next Miyu reprimands Hitomi’s manners because he hadn’t thanked Miyu for saving him before from those men. Hitomi fires back saying that Miyu was the reason they were after his life in the first place. I think Hitomi meant that it was because he was doing a job for Miyu. But Hitomi, this is your line of work! You deciding to become a detective put you in full responsibility of the consequences that might have followed. Miyu leaves the subject anyway but they were only just scratching the surface of their intense relationship.
The two get to business with Miyu telling Hitomi what he thought of the guys that had been chasing him. Miyu says they were just business men just sent to clean up (take care of Hitomi). Hitomi asks Miyu if he had killed them! Miyu gives a vague answer in ‘I wonder…’ and says that he doesn’t remember but of course seeing as they gave us a quick flashback to that scene, he was totally lying through his teeth. But why would he lie? He is Yakuza, it is what they do (kill people, I mean)! Was he really that into Hitomi that he wanted to be on his good side? Hitomi doesn’t believe him though.
Hitomi too shares a bit of information and drops a name. It is the name of the only company that had enough power to send those men after Hitomi. They controlled the town opposite of the Yakuza. It turns out that Angela’s father is the head of this Company. He also shares information about the Narrows Deep bar. Miyu thinks it suspicious but Hitomi tells him that he was still investigating it. Miyu suspects that Hitomi has already found Angela but Hitomi says he isn’t sure yet.
The two have this stare down and I swear the chemistry between these two, even as negative as it came off as was just so….It really makes you wonder why Miyu hired Hitomi! I guess he was the only competent detective left in down after what happened a year ago. But still, it seemed like Miyu and the yakuza would have been capable of finding Angela on their own.
Miyu lets it go (lol) and extends his hand out. Hitomi places the bouquet in his hand grudgingly. Miyu smells them and once again I am left to wonder. Why do you care about Hitomi’s life? You hired him to find a person for you. Why are you meddling in his business so? Why did you take the flowers from him?!! Needless to say Hitomi did not look at all happy about it. Really, this relationship was only one-sided! While it looked like Miyu was getting closer to Hitomi, Hitomi was taking the opposite direction – hating Miyu with every meeting the two have!
Miyu turns to leave (with the flowers in hand) and Hitomi asks him what he is planning to do with the Angel when he finds her. Miyu tells Hitomi that whether she would be pushing Angela from a tall building or dumping her body in a dumpster (scary!) he says that the Angel’s fate is not of his concern. He warns Hitomi too when he says that those who get in his way will, along with the Angel, will be taken care of – that they will be put into a Big Sleep!
So in other words what you are saying is that you plan to kill the Angel? Got it!
Hitomi returns to the bar to further his investigation. I guess when he gets there it was empty because he is going through the place like he owned it until Yuri shows up and accuses Hitomi of robbery. Hitomi says he was only grabbing a box of matches but his problems doubled with the arrival of the owner Ayano, who was holding a gun and had it aimed at Hitomi. She tells him that if he tells them an interesting story, that she might think about letting him go with his life. For example a story based on the match box he was holding in his hand.
It is through this story that we learn the truth about Angela. The box that Hitomi had had in episode one had Mei on the box as the Narrows Angel. But the box Hitomi was holding in his hand as a product of his investigation had Ayano as the Narrows Angel. The new box was the one used 2 years ago before the new boxes were made with Mei on them. That means that Ayano and Yuri have only known Mei for a year, the exact time frame that the Angel Hitomi is looking for went missing. In order to protect her Ayano quit as the Narrows Angel and instead guised Mei as the Angel.
But no matter how much he asked around not a single person knew of a different Angel from Mei. It seems that all the customers coming to the bar were new to town, young people who had just started with new jobs. Whatever happened to the people before then? There was only one organization with that kind of power and Hitomi suspects that Ayano was working with them. She was the one that sent those men to kiss Hitomi before. Ayano tells him that he can’t let him go if he is going to report his findings to the Gangster. Hitomi says that he will quit that job because he does not want to be on the organization’s bad side.
Yeah, about that – Are you saying that you would rather cross the Yakuza then dear Hitomi? You sure do have some crazy thoughts. Then again maybe he knew that he had an upper hand against Miyu! Did he know? Nah, he was too blinded with his love for Mei to have noticed. He never looked at Miyu with another emotion but disdain.
After the secret is out, the three hear a noise. Someone was listening in on their conversation. Yuri says he will take care of them and leaves Hitomi to Ayano. There were two guys and Yuri tried to take them on by herself but got her ass handed to her by the big guy. While the guy does the dance thinking that this tiny girl has nothing on him, Yuri getting tired of the fight pulls an Indiana Jones when she shoots the guy right in the head. Hey, no one said no guns!
Just as Yuri is dragging the bodies to hide them, someone points a gun at the back of her head. It’s Miyu! He wonders how foolish someone was to think of killing members of the Yakuza. For the nth time Miyu displays how ruthless and cold he is when he says to Yuri if they should do it like in the movies and starts counting to three. But when he gets to 2, Yuri tries to turn around and fight back but the gun goes off. With the screen turned to black Miyu finishes ‘3’. Like, how scary can Miyu get?!
Back to Ayano and Hitomi, Ayano knowing that Hitomi was not going to give Mei over to the Yakuza, she thanks him and lets him go.
Meanwhile in her room, Mei is sitting there on her bed and is thinking of some dark moment from her past involving a bloody knife in her hands, a surprised Ayano and a downed Yuri. What did it all mean? Was she a criminal? Who did she hurt? What does it have to do with Miyu? So many secrets. But as she had said to Ayano earlier, secrets make girls beautiful.
Yeah, there was this moment earlier on when she was at the bar. She is smiling stupidly to herself and Ayano seeing this asked her what was up. She wondered if something good had happened to Mei. Mei says that it is a secret to which Ayano says that she had a lot of secrets. Mei says that the more secrets a girl had the more beautiful she was. Ayano jokes that she then must be really beautiful. Mei says that of course she is and Yuri agrees too.
They were such a nice family, these three! Really, if they get separated I will be very sad (like you don’t know BG, like you don’t know!)
Anyway getting back to Mei in her room, I was wondering before what she was smiling about and we find out here in her room. After the painful memories, a face flashes in her mind. That face was Hitomi’s as he had looked at her in the bar and we see Mei go from sad to having a nice smile on her face. Just the thought of Hitomi made her smile even after thinking of such painful things! I guess Hitomi did not need flowers at all. He already struck gold with his Angel.
We then cut to Hitomi buying another bouquet of flowers for his Angel right after Mei was shown thinking of him. He goes to deliver the flowers but just as he reaches Mei’s home, the building blows up right in front of his face!
Earlier in Mei’s room after she had thought of Hitomi, someone had knocked on her door and seeing the next scene of Hitomi buying flowers I thought it had been him that had gone to visit her in her room. Maybe she was waiting for him, hence the happiness at the thought of him. But I guess this isn’t that kind of filmography where scenes can be sequenced like that.
But what does this mean? Is Angela dead? Hitomi sure seemed very shocked. He even dropped the flowers! But who had done it? I mean I recommend their methods. Taking down the whole building just to kill a person is a sure way to made sure they are dead but still!
And of course the second episode had to end there on the frikking ‘is she dead?’ cliffhanger! Oh well, this just makes me excited for the next episode even more.
I am totally in love with movie, especially the awesome tension between Miyu and Hitomi and the way the yaoi implications are escalating. The way it happened aside, Miyu ended up with flowers from Hitomi! The family relationship going on with Ayano, Mei and Yuri is getting to me too. I am actually ready to throw down and protect them. You can just feel the fragility of it all. There is obviously a huge secret binding them together but it is a sad one and seeing them being able to smile like that is just so FEEL-inducing.
Still, the MVP of this whole thing is still Miyu! All his scenes are all filled with hair-raising chills. Most especially the scenes between him and Hitomi. Those two are so going to end up clashing, physically, before this is over, aren’t they? Seriously, it’s like Unbreakable all over again with the way their relations of hero and villain is handled. But really, is Hitomi a hero? Is Miyu a villain? I guess we shall be finding out soon. For now though this is it.
Oh yeah, there are English subs on H!O for the whole thing in case anyone is wondering. For cap purposes I watched the raw BD from my Album purchase so I apologize for the lack of plot depth due to missing gaps in information.
Seriously though, I wish this was a real TV show or an actual movie! The girls were just so good in their roles! I am still surprised that they only have two acting projects on their rapport! They seem so good despite that. Meanwhile in AKB we have the likes of Majisuka Gakuen.
I think I’m gonna…
