Saikin, imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga
最近、妹のようすがちょっとおかしいんだが

And so we continue on with another movie in the R18 releases. Those into anime will know of this series about a little sister who gets haunted by a ghost. I am not familiar with the story as I only watched the first episode because of a cap about the girl and the ghost doing it. All I know is that the ghost is collecting the Imouto’s nectar for something. They explain it in the movie but I guess it was too dumb to stick because I don’t remember the reasons exactly and I am not about to sit through this again any time soon.

If you know of the story ‘Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashii’, then you know that the yuri in this is like the yuri in any other none 100% yuri pron movie! The yuri was just there! The story would have done perfectly fine without it, which was really annoying because in the movie, the yuri made sense! If the Sister had ended up with the Ghost, it would have made perfect sense but alas. Just another harem like this world hasn’t had enough harems to outlast the Sun!

Or, is it?

This movie was kind of disappointing to me in the yuri department. The sex was awesome! They had everything to produce a very nice yuri movie. They gave Imouto-chan the main role and that means she and ghost were the mains with the Brother being there just for the sake of sticking to the original story’s plot! I say that but I have no idea what the original story is since the movie is the only medium I have seen in its entirety. For all I know the movie changed the original story quite a bit. Anyway they had the basis of a great yuri movie but they went and totally fucked this up during the last arc! But did they really? I can’t tell because that last third of the story was shit! It was like they didn’t know what the hell to do or what direction to go in. So what we got was what some would consider an OPEN-END.

Still, Mitsuki/Hiyori won in every department possible to compare except happily ever after but even then…OPEN-END, remember? Still, this was a pain to sit through. Let’s see what’s up…

With the respected Aoyama Yuki-sensei being one of the directors of the movie, this put great hopes in me for a yuri movie and I guess he is the one to thank for the lovely sex scene between Imouto-chan (Mitsuki) and the Ghost (Hiyori). That was without a doubt the best scene in the movie! It is the main reason I am even talking about this movie at all! That scene seemed so long I almost thought that it took half an hour of the full screen time! It totally massacred the sex scene in ‘Torture Club’. That is really weird especially since the other was a 100% yuri movie and this is 95% straight!

Why 95? Well, the sex was the best part no doubt but the relationship between Mitsuki and Hiyori was developed so well that I just had to add in a few points for it. Sure they totally went and butchered all the hard work towards the end of the movie but the early parts were great! I have a feeling this was not Aoyama-sensei’s doing! It was the other director Houei-sensei! And from what I hear people did not respond well to the movie! All rating were low and most of them criticize the ending so it is great to know I was not alone. I just hope they are thinking of the yuri in their criticisms of the ending and how the developed relationship between Mitsuki and Hiyori was wasted when they complain about the character development.

The 5% yuri is what most others will see but yours truly is like no other. I would say that there is about 70% yuri with everything factored in. Actually it should be more than that when you think of what we got from Hiyori/Mitsuki compared to either Hiyori/Brother or Mitsuki/Brother.

Mitsuki was not blood related to this brother of hers as far as I understood it. She went to live with them when their parents got together so they did not have that Japanese Onii-chan complex from the get go. In fact Mitsuki was showed to have little to no feelings towards her brother and she was more disgusted than anything every time she came to her senses and found that Hiyori had possessed her body and had started hitting on her brother using it. The movie was pointing to Mitsuki developing feelings for Hiyori more than she did her brother (which I think is the original plot?) so when that ending happened it was like un-doing all the good work they had done from the beginning.

You see the Ghost Hiyori is using Mitsuki for two goals. One she is collecting her ‘love nectar’ as a way to buy herself more time (and more ladders to heaven!!). Secondary she is using Mitsuki’s body to get close to Mitsuki’s brother because even though she doesn’t know why, Hiyori needs to get close to him or something. She says that in the case of failure, Mitsuki too would suffer consequences so Mitsuki had no choice but to help out, even though very grudgingly.

The two grow closer, well Mitsuki grows to care for Hiyori a great deal, during their time together as she tries to help out Hiyori. Hiyori uses her body to try and do things to Mitsuki’s brother and some times she and Mitsuki have sex to fill the key that buys them more time (and ladders. I swear this movie made no sense to me). Everything was going so great. We got a lot of cute moments and some hot ones. That sex scene between the two was to die for! And yet, and yet!!!

Suddenly out of nowhere, when Hiyori was this close to having her wish granted Mitsuki starts to show heaps of jealousy! But it is not towards who you think and the two break out in a fight over the Bother! Where the hell did these feelings from Mitsuki towards her brother come from!! For the rest of the movie she had shown nothing of being even remotely attracted to him. Surely it wasn’t just bad acting! Hashimoto Tenka isn’t that bad of an actress (Mitsuki). I understood Hiyori’s side, somewhat, because she had been pinning for the guy since minute 5! The sudden Mitsuki raging on Hiyori and her sudden boner for her brother really, really, pissed me off! All that development, wasted! The sex scene that was supposed to be meaningful was reduced to a mere pron scene for the viewer!

Why?!

If they did show Mitsuki getting affected over time whenever Hiyori would use her body to seduce her brother, if they had showed that she was developing feelings for him, I would have bought it! I wouldn’t even have bothered to finish the movie but they did not! Instead of showing us Mitsuki growing closer to her brother they showed us her getting close to Hiyori. This looked more like their story than the original was supposed to be. In the last arc they totally forgot all about this and did a frikkin 120 turn (not full 180 since like I said, Hiyori was all for Bro since day one). Actually even Hiyori was shown to grow closer to Mitsuki while her attacks on the Bro lessened and Mitsuki started to get wooed over by her brother’s brotherly caring!! Seriously, there was a point where I thought that I might have missed a gem of an anime in not watching the whole show when it aired in its anime form because if Hiyori actually ended up falling for Mitsuki and vice-versa, this was a gem in a pile of shit that is harem!

But alas, even Hiyori for some reason seemed much more heated for Bro than before. I tell you that third arc was hell to sit through! Building up all that hope only for us to get fucked over like that! They are villains! I still love Aoyama-sensei though. He is simply awesome and a demi-god in the yuri universe! Still I wonder why he decided to get involved in this project. She could have just picked a different movie to adopt, a full yuri manga but he went for this instead?! Then again if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near this and we probably would have gotten a pretty mediocre love-scene between Mitsuki and Hiyori. We probably wouldn’t even have gotten that bit of chemistry between those two that we got in terms of feelings.

That all being said and done, that love scene was simply marvelous and totally worth a mention on this blog! Actually there is another movie that I will be talking about which also though not yuri, it has one awesome sex scene that I just have to share. Interestingly it is Korean and new too. Makes me wonder if these are times for R18 movies or what! Sur those were the thing in the 60s/70s Asia but they took a long break and now they seem to be back. Look out for that too.

Speaking of those movies, there is actually a great deal of actors in this movie that were also in ‘Torture Club’ for example Yano Mika who played the other first year in Torture Club, was the teacher in this one. Funny too that she was into some S&M scenes as well in here, even though that was Mitsuki’s mousou. I loved that touch. It seemed like there was this Universe of these R18 movies and I have a feeling that some actors might have crossed over into Aka x Pinku as well. I will have to see about that when I re-watch it for discussion.

So then, where does that ‘Or, was it?’ line come in?

Well, after almost making me dump the movie and throw it out permanently, the very last few minutes go and happen and that is where the OPEN-END comes in. After the fight over the brother that not only takes place and gets real physical in the real world but even spills over to the spirit world, things take another turn! After secrets are revealed and what not, Mitsuki goes and drops the bomb!

She confesses her love for Hiyori, right down to her breaking down in tears! It was that convincing! But even as convincing as it might have been, it doesn’t change the fact that those two had just had a fight over their feelings for brother and that right in that moment as they had that conversation in the spirit world, in the real world Hiyori who was in control of Mitsuki’s body was about to have sex with Brother!

Yeah, like, how was I supposed to take that?! I am not being un-reasonable when I get pissed off at this, right? But I am no monster! And really, the final verdict is that they never actually did it! After Mitsuki’s confession Hiyori returns to the real world and finally reveals herself to Brother, not as Mitsuki but as herself. They have their moment and Hiyori vanishes, insinuating that she had moved on. Having left Mitsuki’s body, Mitsuki found herself there, naked like the day she was born right in front of her brother but instead continuing since she apparently had gotten feelings for him that go beyond, and her brother having got to the point of going so far as to undress showing that he was willing to go through with the deal, Mitsuki’s reaction was the exact same as before. She reacted the same way as she did when she would wake up and find herself in compromising positions with her Brother which left me wondering what the hell was going on!

Was Mitsuki just confused about her feelings? Was it because she had never had a brother and this one being so nice to her crossed her wires a bit? Did Hiyori being involved and wanting brother for herself produce these feelings of jealousy that complicated things further?

That resolution to these three made no sense! But me being a yuri fan will take the Mitsuki/Hiyori ending! That confession was a heart warmer. The way Mitsuki cried her eyes out after she had said that she loved Hiyori was just so…And then there is another scene afterwards as Mitsuki gets ready for school. She looks into the distance with this really sad look. She was definitely thinking of Hiyori because she even breaks out into that dance she had with Hiyori before leaving to go get breakfast.

And just as the door closes to the bedroom, a feather floats down and falls on the bed totally hinting at Hiyori still being around, somewhere.

Mitsuki as far as I know didn’t confess to her brother. Sure she got a bit attached when Brother started to be nice to her (just like all brothers are really) and even got jealous of Hiyori to the point of stopping to help Hiyori get close with him. They even fought over him, under a waterfall of all places, but she did not cross the line, let alone confess to him.

Meanwhile, what did she do with Hiyori?! She not only had the only sex, probably her first and only time with Hiyori but she also confessed her feelings for Hiyori! They have been on many dates (even though not officially labeled as such), Hiyori knew Mitsuki to a personal level, all the way to seeing her thoughts! Hiyori also totally changed Mitsuki, she affected her more than any other person.

They were perfect, these two and yet the execution of their story destroyed them!

To conclude, it was painful half of the time watching this but I still consider it yuri at the end of the day. There was nothing that happened between Mitsuki and Brother that was couple like except that date that was more out of complication that anything. Unless it was Hiyori in her body, Mitsuki did not kiss or make out with brother but she had the full course with Hiyori! When Hiyori left Mitsuki was more sad that anything and the only thing she did with her brother was start to walk with him to school and pick the rice grain from the side of his mouth that breakfast.

From what I hear people were pissed at Hiyori’s character and considered her one of the downsides of the movie. I actually liked her, though I don’t think Mitsui Mayu was the right choice for Hiyori. I just, I don’t know, but from the character I saw in the first episode of the anime (the only episode I saw), Mitsuki was the last actor I thought would take her on. Still, I liked her portrayal.

The third act though, if it weren’t for the final moments with the confession and that bedroom scene, I was ready to delete this movie and forget it ever existed…After I had cut out that sex scene of course. That was a keeper for sure. But they had to go and drop in the Mitsuki actually loved Hiyori card to force me to keep the movie. Oh well, who needs the 10gigabytes of space anyway? It’s nothing!
