Totally missing Fate/Stay Night UBW, which is on break until April, I decided to go check out some other anime because I know this is a slow period and I need to pass the time. I was kind of surprised to find quite a bit of interesting ones. Now of course Watashi ga Motenai is actually already finished airing (waay back) but I just decided to watch it right now and I am finding myself wondering why I did not watch it when it was airing. Then there is the new one like Koufuku Graffiti and Kantai Collection.
And before we proceed, yes, I have actually watched episode 01 of Yuri Kuma Arashi. I mean come-on, from the person that brought us the unforgettable UTENA, how could I miss this for the world? Sadly, I was hit right in the plexus when I did watch it, especially that OP! I mean I will hold off judgement until I have seen episode two but usually OPs give away how a story will progress and what I saw was that it was going into Threesome territory!
I hate Threesomes!
I don’t usually use the word hate and try not to but in the case of threesomes, I don’t even have a bad aftertaste after using it because I can’t stand threesomes! If a thing called Love exists and soul mates and such, then there is no way it can be divided into three people! If it can then why not go all out and make it 5 or 10P while they are at it?! To me this takes away the concept of Love or more like it dilutes it and makes it less, I don’t know, real? Yuri Kuma seems to be heading into Threesome territory and it is the reason why I am not including it, but I have watched the first episode and will see two to close off the deal.
Yeah, I am very emotional when it comes to yuri!
Going back to the actual Anime that grabbed my attention, I will be beginning with the oldest one that has already finished airing…
This is how you transform yourself from a looser Junior High Scholar to a High Scholar! Poor Tomoko’s reaction was just too priceless. And that Yuu, did she look like Yomi (BRS) or what, during her Junior High days I mean?
So yeah, I kind of made the mistake of watching the OVA before I watched the series and it kind of left me bummed out! I went into the series with very low motivation but remembering those caps of Tomoko having dirty thoughts about Yuu while they hugged, kept me going. If only for that scene I would suffer through anything, I thought. Well, praise the Lord for the TV was actually a face-heel turner for me. Things first kicked off in episode 2 when Tomoko finally meets her long lost friend from Junior High (Yuu).
Tomoko, Tomoko dear Girl please…
Seriously Tomoko?
Ero-Gamers in the real world!
Tomoko has got to be the most entraining main character I have seen in a while! We seriously need more female Leads in Anime! They are just so entertaining! I can’t even think of how a meeting between Tomoko and Kanako (Miyamae) would go! All I know is that it would be the most funny moment of my life!
Watching Tomoko lose her mind just from the close proximity with Yuu was just so LOL! And she has no filters at all. She is so lucky Yuu is okay with her weird antics. She probably understands Tomoko and her lack of social interactions so she lets her get away with it.
That’s too much shock to be nothing!
The two spend the day doing all kinds of fun things like they used to; going to the movies, the arcade, the park and all that. Seems Yuu was down about something which was why she had approached Tomoko in the first place and Tomoko did her best to make Yuu feel better even though without knowing it, Yuu too did make Tomoko feels better just by visiting her.
But then as they departed, Yuu went and said something that totally wiped all the good feels Tomoko had managed to build up the whole day in a matter of seconds! She told Tomoko that having a fight with her BOYFRIEND was not something to be so down about. The shock on Tomoko’s face was just so out of this world! She whipped out her headphones and fired up some Enya music because to hell with everything!
I too was in the same boat. I was like, okay, thank you very much anime! Now I am going to be thinking about how Yuu has a boyfriend and thus erasing any chances of some yuri. But thankfully, we never get to meet said boyfriend and neither do we hear him get mentioned again! Moreover, Yuu still pops up every once in a while and they talk on the hones regularily so there is that I guess. Still…
How to ask a girl out on a date
Twice this has happened!
Words…I have nay
Other bloggers take Tomoko’s behaviour as her just being clueless to social contact but I call bull! She is in High School for crying out loud and even though she reads manga and plays games all her time, there is some social educations in that media and moreover she doesn’t act like this towards her family so me don’t buy the Tomoko just doesn’t know how to deal with people excuse! I would bite if Yuu was a new friend but they have been together in the past and close too so Tomoko acts this way towards Yuu, someone she can be comfortable with, then…
Seriously, she is just a pure perv at heart and I am sure if given the chance, she would take Yuu just like that! Too bad Yuu is taken but not all is doomed! More on that later though. For now I am just going to go with my gutt feeling Tomoko is curious! There was this time she was trailing a couple from her class and they were on a stairway. Just like she was in the above caps, Tomoko was a couple of steps behind them and she had a glimpse of the girl’s panties! Afterwards, she said it herself that she could remember nothing at all except for the sight (of the panties).
Verdict: Curious!
Ah Yuu, you are just too good. Y U Go and get a boyfriend?! Tomoko would benefit more from you than your boyfriend does I am sure! I just love how Tomoko’s eyes never stray away from Yuu’s boobs! And that Yuu doesn’t chastise Tomoko at all for it, she just leans down so they can see eye to eye instead of calling Tomoko out on her lecherousness! There has just got to be fan fiction about these two. Will look into it later.
Episode 11 is where things kick into high gear in more ways than one! One of the two being about Tomoko and Yuu during the School Festival when Yuu comes visiting! Somehow their first meeting of the day was more intense than the ones before. Okay, so it might have been that Yuu was just too glad to see Tomoko because she was in an crowded and non-familiar environment but it is a school making you wonder if there is something going on in Yuu’s school but of course you will never find out, just like many other things we won’t even at Tomoko’s own school!
But me being me, I decided to look at it in a different way. Maybe this is only showing how they have developed over the course of the series. Tomoko’s delusions towards Yuu are getting more intense and Yuu is giving Tomoko all these openings…Actually speaking of which, how come her boyfriend wasn’t here?! You would think it would have been the perfect opportune to introduce the two (well in Yuu’s case) but instead she brought her female friends. I wonder, I wonder…
Such a romantic cliché meeting!
Where did this perfect girl come from?!!
Meet Imae Megumi, the school’s Idol and Head Girl (I think) and Tomoko has just caught her eye! Finally, someone notices Tomoko in the whole schools after a full semester (term) and by the gods! Just as from her first meeting, I too totally fell for Megumi as soon as my eyes fell on her! I was like, there is my favourite girl in the whole show, even though it is episode 11! And dat voice >.<
From their very first meeting where they bumped into each other as Tomoko ran to the nurse’s office after cutting herself, to the two continuously bumping into each other and stalking each other as of the latter was just too perfect for a shipper like me! I was like, Yuu who? And the animators were not being subtle about anything with these two because in every single scene they were in together there was always this significant lighting as if telling us that these scenes are special and judging from the following scenes they most could have been.
Still in episode 11 territory, unless Megumi is a natural Mother Teresa, her infatuation with Tomoko in this episode was was over the scale of the norm. I found this actually quite interesting in that while usually Tomoko is the one seeking attention and recognition from others (Though she never does something about it) here it was the opposite with Megumi in that she was more interested in Tomoko than Tomoko is her.
I am not sure what she saw in Tomoko at their first meeting but she had a huge impact on Megumi. During the festival Megumi was looking for Tomoko, a girl she had only met not even a week prior and yet she was that concerned for her. Then came that ED scene! While Megumi is speaking with her friend she catches sight of Tomoko who looks really down. Megumi takes the costume from her friend and dons it then gives a surprise visit to a sad Tomoko. She doesn’t speak so Tomoko never finds out who it is but she walks up to Tomoko, give her a balloon and when Tomoko reaches for it, Megumi pulls her in for a hug!
My heart almost exploded!
How long is she going to spend thinking of this?
SHIP!!!!!
Yuu-chan, I think I just saw God!
How perfect is this anime?! Hoe perfect was that transition to the ED? How Perfect was the ending of ep11?!!!
Any way, this is episode 12, sadly the last episode as well. I know! I was ripping out hair and everything when I waited to the next episode to come only I was taken to the next media in the playlist! How evil can anyone be to end a series at that moment?!! Seriously, the series ended just as Tomoko finally grew out of herself and approached someone other than Yuu to talk to and that someone was none other than Megumi!
She and Megumi were finally going to start interacting and the darn studio pulled this crud on us!!! Why would you do this to us?!! Worse is that it has been a year no mention of a sequel! That’s right, this anime aired in 2013! You would think something like this would be getting a sequel but noo, they instead give us the un-needed ones!
And what a scene for Megumi and Tomoko to see each other last on? I am going to go out of my way here to swear that Tomoko is the only person in that school that has ever seen Megumi’s panties! And since Tomoko has an inner lecher within her, I was ready to find out how affected she would be by that scene and though the ED kind of showed us just how much, I wanted to see the affects over time.
Most importantly though, I wanted to see the progression of Megumi and Tomoko’s relationship. I have no doubt that Megumi is going to have such a huge impact on Tomoko’s life, how she would mature and get out of the Hikkikomori shell. But I also wanted to know the fruits of Megumi’s infatuation with Tomoko. She is the only one who is interested in Tomoko in the whole school and I wanted to see where that went.
Also that scene where Tomoko trailed Megumi in the corridors, it seemed to me that even though they said she was loved by both the boys and the girls, she looked pretty lonely to me. I am sure she would have gained something from Tomoko just as much as Tomoko would have if they got closer and became friends but alas, the stupid show had to end at this highest of points!
Still though, what a ride! I was totally surprised by Megumi for I wasn’t aware of her existence. If she was in the OVA, I totally missed her seeing as I screened through it due to lack of interest brought on by deceiving scenes that I was unfortunate to see.
I sure hoe there will e a sequel because I am dying to see how Megumi and Tomoko’s relationship progresses and if Yuu’s boyfriend actually exists. That last scene of her in episode 12 where she looks really down kinda…
Any way, that’s that for Watashi ga Motenai…

Thanks Kuro. But as I mentioned, I watched that first before I even watched the episodes >.<

I respect you a lot more after reading your first impression of Yuri Kuma Arashi xD I’m going to watch the anime anyway, but I hate the idea of yuri fans drooling over that fanservice.
Despite that, I’ve noticed some details that caught my attention, such as the Ave Maria music box and the remix. I’m interested in finding some kind of super secret meaning in all that bizarreness.

Thans dojibironblue and welcome. Well, at least I think this is your first comment?
Anyway you certainly should watch Yuri Kuma. Don’t mind me and my picking. If anything this is one of those series that based on the directors, it is going to shake up the community so even if not for the yuri, it is worth watching.

Yes, my first comment, I’m a blogyeurist, I just read (????) or just a shy girl, whatever you like the most 😛
I agree with you. Also, the anime has some similarities with Utena, I think it’s fascinating xD

I knew it! Thanks for coming out then 😊
