Be With Me
If there ever was a movie with so many feels, this is it!
Perhaps the only reason it isn’t perfectly rated (all ratings are over 7) it is because there is just too much feels! It is one of those silent movies that I love so much! They are silent and yet so very attention demanding. The feelings are very raw without being played upon by creepy and moody BGM!
It is basically a story about love at each generation and it actually has more than two stories (couples) to tackle but their stories are kind of linked in together that even though I was very tempted to scroll through to the yuri parts, I couldn’t help but hover my hand over that scroll button.
Different stories, different circumstances but one movie.
But be that as it may, I am only going to focus on the yuri part.
By the end of this movie, I was blowing into my sleeves like a sissy because, my God!
No, no, don’t start panicking, yet.
It’s not that kind of a BAD END. Both are still alive at the end of the movie. and only one man might have died though we didn’t see the corpse so he might be in the hospital or something. Though I doubt it.
So no. No deaths where our yuri couple is concerned. But remember the tears? Well, let’s just say that death would have been better in this case.
Okay, now you can start panicking.
In the beginning of course, they were just like any other couple at the peak of their relationship. The did girly thing, lovey dovey things and smiles were plastered all over their faces as if they were walking on golden clouds or something.
They went shopping. They went to the movies. They played house like putting on each other’s make-up, feeding each other and all that. They went puri-kura-ing. They went clubbing and you could see them gazing at each other with such gazes across the dance floor that it seemed as if there existed only them. They went star-gazing too. They were so into each other that they could not even resist doing it in the house with the mother still in. In fact they even did it…in a motel! First time I’ve seen a movie about high school girls actually doing it (implying any way). I mean even Spider Lilies had to jump ten years ahead before we got the goods!! (Hmmm, I must hunt down more Singapore movies)
They were on top of the world. No, they were so far gone they were into their own world by then.
Seriously, you should watch that scene which must have been about their very first kiss. They were so awkwardly cute that I wanted to die, turn into a ghost, phase myself into the damn movie and give them all kinds of hugs!
Everything was all good but then suddenly…So suddenly in fact that the Irish weather would want to dig a hole and hide forever, the walls of their heaven begin to crumble. No wear, no cracks. Just sudden break-down!
Jackie stumbles upon the poison from hell a message on Sam’s phone that wasn’t from her, or anyone she knows, and it’s a guy’s name. In fact there is a list of messages from him longer than her own name!
I swear, the look on her face…I could easily imagine the denial battle going on in her mind at that revelation. They showed this scene right after we see Sam meeting some Dude to obviously go on a date! Can you say ‘Ouch!’.
Jackie can’t believe it. Never! So she decided that proof was the way to go so she stalks Sam out. She he one day finds her in a restaurant and would you believe it, she is having a romantic meal with Dick (you know the deal)!
But poor Jackie has it so bad she still doubts so she texts Sam right there across the street asking her where she is at. Sam replies that she is at the movies and that she can’t talk right then.
Can you believe it! She said she was at the movies! At the movies with who? Obviously not her best friend and lover. Nope!
After that Jackie does all she can to get into contact with Sam. She keeps her distance (which I adore plenty) and her messages aren’t mean at all like you would expect from someone in her position. She doesn’t even blame Sam for anything at all. All she wants to know is if Sam is avoiding her and if so then why. She just wants an explanation, a talk face to face, anything!
Sam denies her all that!
Jackie finally goes to Sam’s house and she knows that she is pushing it and one can see the war inside of whether to go ahead or take a step back and just hold on. Finally she can’t take the pain anymore so she rings that bell. Sam is actually up in her room and she is watching Jackie but it’s her Dad that opens the door for Jackie.
Sam’s Dad doesn’t recognise her, at all! (Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch!)
That finally does Jackie in.
She finally allows herself to see the truth. She was dumped, just like that, without any warning at all for a Guy she didn’t know a thing about but seemed to have been in Sam’s life quite a bit long. Her own mother knows of her…preferences and she knows of her love for Sam which is why she usually interrupted them whenever they were in her room and it got very quite suddenly.
Yet Sam’s parents didn’t know a thing about Jackie. They probably didn’t even meet her before!
Having been honeys for Lord knows how long, going all the way in their relationship and yet Sam didn’t even mention her at all to her parents! She probably was displaying Dick as her boyfriend to her parents while she deceived Jackie and took everything from her.
Here is the thing though. I don’t think Sam just dumped Jackie with no reason at all. Her family was probably one of those families…Remember the Aihara family? Like those! Because when Jackie sent her a text (another one after the first one was ignored) that asked if Sam missed Jackie, she gives this look that is obviously not black or white but shaded. She still has the pictures they took with an ‘I ♥ U’ on her desk! She looked at it with a telling gaze when she saw that text.
She still ignores the texts any way! It got to the point where the dreaded ‘DELETE’ madness commenced and she went through them like one goes through bill envelopes!
It was really painful watching Jackie suffer. At that age love is very SRS business and for it to end just like that….No wonder she attempted suicide by walking with eyes closed at a red light! Too bad God was on her side that cars went passed her as if she was a phantom!
Jackie is at the end of her rope! There seems to be no light at the end of this tunnel. And so she re-visits that fated place of their first real kiss, and probably very first intimate touch on the roof of a power plant (?).
The memories of that day came flowing back to her so clearly it was as if she was watching the scene play out right in front of her own eyes.
That moment is such a sweet moment that no amount of gifs can do it justice so here is a clip of it…
As if having burned that happy scene to take with her forever, Jackie climbs…and climbs…To finally say goodbye to this pain that will surely kill her any way in the long run. And with one final text,
And either God is a prankster or Jackie is such a great person that God just won’t let her go just yet! But if that were the case, the taking her and away from this pain would be the best, right? I mean Jesus was also taken (well, his spirit) to be saved from the pain of the crucifix!
Any way Jackie lives, having fallen on someone upon her jumping, and Sam will probably never know what had transpired, how she had caused someone to kill themselves! Jackie lived but what was her life after that?
This movie is so sad. They didn’t even let us see what happened after that. Sam didn’t visit the hospital any way, we know that!
Even after the failed death, we see Sam opening a text to see that message from Jackie finally having reached her. She almost hits the reply button…almost!
I am pretty sure God wouldn’t be so nice were Sam to attempt to die! Seriously, even the last message was frikkin denied!
I can’t handle these feels. So let me excuse myself here…
