HitoMiyu & MeiYuri
Tokyo Girls’ Style finally arrives to the 2012 YURI party bearing gifts – Tsuioku!
And what a gift!
Thank you Avez gods!
This PV is FAN-tastic! I swear it’s like those guys stalk fans’ sites, read the fans’ wishes and then grant them! Seriously, this whole PV is like a fan dedication with its kind-of-smut/fluff theme going on there and with my ships no less.
Both of them!
While ‘Love Like Candy Floss’ was all HitoMiyu, Tsuioku has HitoMiyu ( by default of course) AND MeiYuri as well. In fact, MeiYuri seem to be the dominant couple and are the only ones shown to have had the BEST END!
From what I understand from this PV, the theme with all the ‘time’ thingy and the brain-nulling cut scenes, I came away with the understanding that it is about that thing! That Japanese thing that for the life of me I can’t remember fully but from what I do remember, it was about something like Japanese society and its view on the relationship of girls. Something to do with the fact that it is okay to be gay as long as you will grow out of it when you are older or something. Apparently, if they weren’t lies, there is a calculus about in the the Japanese education system too, or there was since I remember mentions of it being shafted! Hopefully, shafted in the sense that women can marry other women now (which seems to be happening, what with that wedding – yes, yuri wedding at the Tokyo Disney land. it was fake though, so me not knows what this all means but alas. Real world sucks anyway so let’s get back to the idol world please….
Any way, Tusioku, to humble me, seems to be about our girls all grown up as they reminisce back on their early years and their (very probable) first loves. Or in the case of MeiYuri, first and only love! I am not sure what happened with HitoMiyu in the end but I will have my fantasies thank you very much. I swear they left it openly like that to further tease me. Those nice bastards!
Gifts from Mei-ting
First up is MeiYuri.
If we take the costumes to be the representation of the ‘past’ and the white dresses to be the ‘present’ or ‘now’, it kind of makes sense. Each story begins with Yuri, Hitomin and Aachan opening up their memorable tokens (presents from drawers) and thus remember/tell us of their past experiences with their love.
There is great potential for fics on each story and believe you me, I shall be taking advantage to be sure. Starting from the MeiYuri storyline, from what I understood, it was the usual story about best friends with one of them having a secret, or maybe not so secret, crush on the other. Having re-watched this PV to the point of almost wearing down my USB, I came to the conclusion that it was the latter with Mei having a crush on Yuri with Yuri understanding it but not quite accepting it but since they are friends, Mei still sticks with her no matter how painful (it is supposed to be painful being that close to your love and not being able to do anything about it, believe me) since they are friends and Yuri prefers to bask into that ignorance since things would be easier that way – but of course no matter how close, how dedicated, the love always wins and the feelings grow too strong and thus more painful to be that close so Mei finally cracks.
Yuri finally reaches that point of the well-known ‘you don’t know what you have until you’ve lost it’ and finally grows balls/gives into her own feelings and and does what most wouldn’t do. She fights by stopping Mei from leaving and perhaps finally accepting her feelings. See, most fandoms would just let Mei walk away or some other cowardly shit like that. But not our Yuri. NOPE! She fights and the results are what she so deserved – She gets the girl! Even in the ‘present’ they are clearly shown to be an item and thus together forever.
The BEST END!
Ooh but wait…
They just had to go and do that HAND SEX didn’t they!!!!
Damn it all! I am such a sucker for hand sex! I swear, those guys at Avex are stalking me! There is just no other explanation for this, nay, the only explanation for this whole PV’s existence is bordering on fan-stalking!
To top it off, they even do that cut-away at the scene where Miyu takes hold of Hitomin’s head and starts to pull her in for an obvious KISS!
Actually, the HitoMiyu arc in this PV is just like the normal yuri that we are very familiar with. I am talking about the one where the creators try to deceive those new to the community by leaving things dilute enough to go by unaware, where as at the same time, there is enough for the regulars to pick things up right off the bat.
This HitoMiyu was like that.
I can’t quite place the concept actually. I have a couple of theories but the one with a better percentage is that these two have a kind of senpai/kouhai/friend/adoration relationship going on. But along the way, Hitomin’s feelings go deeper than friendship, very thanks to the very kind senpai as it always happens. Actually, this reminds me of our very own Mayuki. Hitomiyu has it so bad that she puts Twilight-Bella to shame – when we see how bad she will take it were Miyu to leave. I mean for crying out loud, they did show blood. On the surface it can be seen as nothing at all but an accident but the fact that they showed it, and the careless way Hitomi ignored it is very disturbing. And just when I thought this was supposed to be a lighter note. Leave it to TGS to throw a curve ball.
Actually, me thinks it was no accident. I believe Hitomin held the broken shard so strongly it cut her skin deep from the emotions of waking up alone with Miyu nowhere to be seen and thus thinking the worst. I shudder to think of what she would have done with the shard had Miyu not come back soon after – what with the way Hitomin was staring at it.
Emotions that strong cannot just be out-grown which is why I don’t mind that the ending was kind of ambiguous to their relationship but I also remember that the PV is actually cut off. There is more which hopefully concludes the HitoMiyu story and explains Aachan’s side of things.
Speaking of Aachan…
I don’t even…
What the hell are they trying to tell us, like…?
Is she teh slut?
What I mean is that is she supposed to be the one with the forbidden relationship? By forbidden I mean in love with someone waaaaay older than her? Or maybe a relative? Are they the ones sending her these letters that are so bad she has to tear them up?
Could it be that they are having an affair? Her and Miyu I mean! Actually, this makes a new argument/way to see things. Could Miyu and Aachan be class-mates and best friends or maybe really close best friends but Miyu chose Hitomin over Aachan after having seen what being apart would do to Hitomin? Is the letter that Aachan tore-up in the past from Miyu? Is the ambiguous ending because Miyu can’t choose from the two and thus she’s seeing the both of them secretly? Is the letter that Aachan kept the one that kept their relationship going?
I don’t know…I just-I just don’t know.
What I do know is that Tokyo Girls’ Style has done it again!
There I was, wishing for their contribution to the YEAR of YURI and BAM! They actually deliver! And what a beauty of the PV!
If SKE48’s KataFina was Rated 16+, TGS’s Tsuioku is PG!
I can’t believe it was over 6min and obviously not in its entirety! I can only wonder how long the actually full version is! Either way I doubt I will notice. No matter how many times I’ve watched it, Tsuioku is over before I know it!
It’s that good!
The song is also very very pleasant to the ears and the heart that I can’t get tired of listening to it.
Just the thing the Yuri Doc ordered!
Thank you Avex!
Thank you Tokyo Girls’ Style!
And thank you dear readers!
I have very much missed you too as much as you (hopefully) missed me.
It’s great to be back!
